I mean you will throw the code constantly if there is no speed input to the speedo on the combometer. The main speed sensor is on the trans, but if you don't have the combo one hooked up you will get a code. That being said, my speedo doesn't work either b/c i'm currently using the newer trans and transcase (temporary), and like you said, the newer trans hole is way bigger and cable drive thing won't fit. I have a code, but doesn't affect operation, just an annoying light. I use an iphone speedo app.

I was lucky on my speed sensor, the new transmission already has one, and i took my old speed sensor off my 3.0 transfer case and it fit perfectly into the RF1A transfer case, that one drives my speedometer! My computer still throws the speed sensor code but my speedometer works fine! And the only thing that troubles me is my reverse slips and i wondered if it is because of my electronically controlled transmission not getting input from my shift lever! (disconnected)
