I was thinking of pickup up a used set from a guy that are already ceramic coated. Their application is for a 96-00 Tacoma and I was wondering if anyone know is they are going to fit or not.

The price is fair since i am going to have to pay someone to build a crossover anyway. I figured this would be a better route all around.

I thought that Downey made a dedicated setup for 3.4 swaps into 89-95 truck but I could be wrong.

 

I have a set on the motor I just swapped in. My donor motor was from a wrecked 1999 manual Tacoma and they were already installed. It is pretty snug and I have yet to get it to the muffler shop but they are on the motor and in my 1994 4Runner.



I installed a hard fuel line going into the engine bay. There was really no room between where the original line started to go up into the engine bay and the new Downey Header.

 

Loads of guys are using Downey headers. They did have some headers that they advertised for 3.4 swaps. As for if they were different I have no idea. As far as I know they "should" work. Don't hold me to that.

 

I've been using the Downey headers on my swapped Runner for about 5 yrs now. Some advice if you get them, use your stock manifold studs and gaskets.
The biggest issue I've found with them is crossing the passenger side back over to the drivers side under the vehicle. This leaves your crossed over pipe exposed.

 

hey Tragic you have any pictures of the fit? I would be really interested in seeing those.

I would think that the steering area would be a concern as well as the fuel line. I have the stock crossover in mine right now so I already moved the fuel line so maybe that will be permanent if I buy these Downeys.

 

Here is a pic, Its not mine but close. The steering was never really an issue for me. The fuel line could be an issue but that can be easily corrected, so no deal breaker there.
Now in my opinion using a modified crossover like Mt Goats is the best way to do it. It does cost more from the get go however you will not have the crossover under the transmission as mine is.

 

I have a set on my swapped 3.4.Found a new set on ebay that had the egr pipe.Had to cut egr pipe off and welded up the hole because it hit the steering shaft.I have about 1500 miles on the swap with no problems so far.

 

Chopperbob, how did you address the crossover from the passenger side header?

 

The downey headers are long tube.I ran the pipe down the right side.Made a y pipe around the transfer.Used 2.5 pipe and a magnaflow it's a little loud when open it up but it runs very well.

 

I've had the downey headers installed for about 6 years now. I originally had the crossover above the front driveline, but it was too tight. Had to crush the pipe a little. So I had a local shop do the exhaust and it crosses over just before the transfer case. Sticks down about as far as the crossmember. Not ideal, but it'll do until the sas.

As for the headers, no complaints. Kinda tough to put in after the motor was bolted in, but that's about it. 2003 3.4, 1993 4runner.

 

Can't ya just run them as two singles? I was thinking that I could do true duels that way not possible?

 

and you guys are using just regular downeys sold for an 06-00 Tacoma/Runner?

I thought that Downey was making a header special for 3.4 swaps?

Just want to make sure that if I grab some Tacoma headers that they will physically fit.

 

There are two inputs into the ecm for O2 sensors. One is for the sensor in front of the cat and the other is for behind.
If you ran true duels you would only be able to mount 1 bank with an 02 or wideband .The computer would only see half your motor and prolly would not know how to adjust the fuel trims correctly.
Can it be done? I suspect there might be long term issues.

 

Althogh i don't think the o2's would be a problem, you have the fuel tank on the passenger side to go around and deal with also. I don't see a problem with duplicating the above setup, the driveline is going to get hit by something before the exhaust is. I would probably run it similar to above.
