Alt upgrade for Swap
First off - Damn steering connectors! I have been having a major issue with my split second FTC-1 crapping out and not sure what the issue is caused by but I am getting the dreaded camshaft position sensor malfunction code. Of course I have checked sensor, battery, starter, wiring, alternator, etc.. No issues except it made me think that I really do need to upgrade the tiny 80A alternator I have on there now. I am running the split second system, efan with DCC controller, two amps for a little sub and all my speakers, wideband system, and a double din pioneer system.
I have tried a couple different GM alternators and of course - absolutely no room (CS-144- Don't even think about it). I know that there are some over the internet you can purchase but I was wondering if anyone has succesfully put in a "junkyard" mod alt with higher amp rating. It looks like a jaguar xj6 120A could work. I have not tried that one yet. Anyone? MR2 100A?

Thanks for the Input Guys
Well I ended up trying to fit in a Jaguar Denso 120 Amp and it worked
It took some grinding on the bottom attach point which connects to the bracket. Also it required some soldering with the alternator harness plug. Ours is the oval style plug and the jaguar is the older style round plug. And the last thing I had to do was drill the cable going to the screw on the pos side battery a little bigger. Oh yeah and put in a larger cable running directly from battery to alternator. I also stuck in a 120 amp fuse into the fuse connector under the hood. I didn't change the pulley on it. I wish I would have snapped some photos along the way. I will post up a photo of it in the car though. The supercharger belt works fine with the way it is in there. Have no issues turning and hitting the lame rag joint either.
I ended up getting at the local pick and pull for 11 bucks! With a 13 month warranty! Now that I now it fits when this one craps out I can either get another used one or pick up a lifetimer autozone one for 140.
Its no mean green high output alternator or anything but an extra 40 amps for a couple hours work and 11 bucks is nice. No more annoying lights dimming when the car hits a low loud base with the turn signal on!

Yeah that is where I found the idea. I wasn't sure it would either but with a decent cut off wheel anything is possible right! You have to push it as far towards the engine as possible with 3.0 steering linkage and the bigger 3.4. It worked out great though. It has only been a couple days since changing and everything looks good so far. It is charging and sensing correctly so hopefully this another mod that is not terribly difficult for those not wanting to drop 300 on a more powerful alternator who have the 3.4 swap completed.
