99 3rz to 3.4

hey guys I have a 99 taco with the 2.7l 3rz. It was originally 4x4 but i took out the front diff and all that because it is a fully built prerunner and i wanted more travel and less weight out front. It has the 5 speed manual and still has the tcase for 4x4.

My question is, is there any info on dropping a 3.4 in it? I know that same year came with a 3.4 so i was thinking it may be a little easier than going from one of the older tacos. Do i have the same 5 speed as the 99 3.4 comes with? What all would i need to complete swap? It is a prerunner so im not too worried about the speedo and all that, although tach would be nice. But i mean that im not worried about all the creature comforts.

any info would be appreciated. Everything i find is talking about puting the 3.4 into an older taco that came with a 3.0.

I know I need the motor mounts and i have no problem building them.

I guess my main question is the wiring. Since i have a 99 taco (lots of 99's came with the 3.4) do i still need a completely new wiring harness? Does anyone know of someone that has converted the 2.7l wiring to work with the 3.4?

I know ill need a new ecu and engine harness, but what will i need to splice it all into the actual truck harness?

does the 3.4 bolt right up to my 5 speed?

is ebay the best place to buy one?

Tacomas never came with a 3.0. Never.

Yes, you will need new motor mounts.
Yes, you will need to custom wire it.
Yes, you will need the motor, ecu and harness off the donor (preferable a donor vehicle)

Best bet is local junk yard or classifieds for a wrecked 3.4 donor vehicle.

I think everyone's cost is different when they finally totaled it all up.
Some people, like myself, put in new timing belt, clutch, resurface flywheel, blah blah blah, some have to rebuilt the engine before swapping.
I end up spending over 3K for it and I'm not done yet because I want to regear but no regrets. I had to piece some thing together. The engine, MAF and harness from 95/96 auto T100, 2WD manual ECU from a place in Oregon.

oh, make sure you download the FSM and EWD from here..

It'll help you to determine how much wiring you need to do.

what about the jdm motors that say they are taken out of a 4 runner from japan? Is that a bad idea? Do they use different electronics.

Has anyone mounted everything and then just had a shop do the wiring? What would that cost most likely?
