3.4 swap and regear ?

Anyone else has 5.29 gear with the 3.4 swap? is it too low? Do I need to regear to 4.88?
Thanks

Depends on several factors.

What size tires are you running, what is you overall goal with the truck, etc etc.

I am starting my 3.4 swap this weekend, and I am running 4.88 gears in my axles.

I have the 3.4 in my 4runner now, and I also have 5.29's with 35's. I don't like it on the highway. It is to low imo. I wish I would have gone with 4.88's. There is plenty of power to pull 35's even with 4.10's. But it was just a tad high for me driving around up in the woods. I went with 5.29's because I already had a rear end setup from when I had my truck. Don't get me wrong in the woods, its great.

I am currently trying to source an r452 tranny, or at least the 5th gearset from one, so that I can get my overdrive to 30%. This would put me at around 2100 to 2200 rpm's at 60 or so. Which will be much better.

Hope this helps ya.

I'm running 4.10s with my 33" tires and it's a decent combination. I would think 5.29s would be really low, depending on your tire size.

I got 5.29 /35's now. I recalled seeing 3.4 w 31 & 4.30 instead of.4.56 as factory standard. Im not sure if the manual trans are the same as ours or not.

appreciated the inputs.

3.4 with 265/75/16's and 4.30. Its already better for mileage than the previous 4.56 gears i had. I may not have the go off the line that snaps your neck, but I can now go farther on a tank of gas.

Sounds like I need to regear or get bigger tires...36 0r 37...
Towing with 5.29 should be great though.
