3.4 swap / coolant temp not working
I just completed my 3.4 swap into my 93 4runner. The donor rig was a 99 Toyota Tacoma with 5 speed harness and ecu. I used ORS conversion harness which cranked up first try. Everything works on the dash excluding the temp gauge.ive swapped with a spare 3.4 sensor, tried a 3.0 one. Plug appears to be in good condition. I had the cluster out to add in a resistor for the tach and tried a spare cluster also not working. The gauge worked just fine before the swap. So I’m just curious if there something obvious I’m missing.

The temp gauge comes out of the engine harness, plugs into the conversion harness which plugs into the dash harness. I would call ORS. They can tell you which pin in each connector is for the temp gauge.

Did you get this figured out?
If not, maybe I can sow some positive karma.
Disclaimer: Probably totally wrong, and for a 95 3.0 and a 99 3.4 from a 4runner.
95: The temp sensor ON THE COMBO METER is a yella/green wire that goes thru IH2 pin 14 and continues same color up to the guage connector (C11-6).
The 99 is Y-Red that goes thru II3 (thats aye-aye 3) pin 21, providing same fcn. So maybe check continuity (and check for ground shorts) from C11-6 to the pin on sensor.
Cuz you got a connector, a wire, a connector & connector, another wire (and I assume - ya know what that means) from ORS(?) - not sure how they do their majik - and then a wire, another set of connetors, another wire out thru the firewall in harness to temp sensor. Lots of possible points of failure.
Hope that helps, and if it does, send positive vibes back! Mostly, post what you found to resolve problem!

Solved
Forgot about this thread. Called ORS and “confirmed” the wiring pin out on there plug and my engine harness plug telling me everything was correct on there side. Some how there wiring diagram for the “99 Tacoma” must of been incorrect after finally decided to pull back the wire coating on the plug that connects to the switch (red w yellow stripe) then looking at the plugs, they were pinned out for a yellow with red stripe. Easy fix for me just repinned for correct wire and works perfect. Easy mistake and still love the quality of ORS harnesses but annoying for the amount I payed for the harness.
