My original 4 cyl. Will a V6 one line up?

I'll probably make my own dual case skid plate/crossmember anyway. There are some out there I really like but shipping is too much for such a heavy item.

You need a v6 double case one. It will line it all up and make welding in the motor mounts cake.

This is what I bought:

http://www.trail-gear.com/crossmembers

When I bought mine, they were $199 and they came powdercoated. I see TG now raised the price AND no longer powdercoats them. Mighty white of em.

Thanks for the info everybody. I was looking at TG's dual case setup. Thanks for letting me know the V6 is the one to get.

I like Sky's better. Shipping is expensive. I'll probably just make one.

Got a lot of the CORRECT parts on the way thanks to you guys.

Problem being no one else makes them! Not even Marlin or All-pro. I think they are missing out on a serious market there.

Sky makes a nice one. Still $239 and about $60 to ship to me.

I priced out steel to build one and I may as well just buy one. I'm going to be getting my spine worked on and have to get the heavy stuff done soon.

Ended up ordering the TG one from Wab Fab for $224 and got free shipping since I spent over $500.

That didn't sound good. Should I expect a long delay?

I've ordered TG parts from other vendors but, it all shipped from TG in Cali.

Exactly TG shipped it! WabFab has a very bad rap sheet around here. Lots of people getting riped off or not receiving there's item for several weeks.

I'm not flaming anyone but do a google search on him and a BBB search.

Got moving on my swap again. Fabbed up some mounts from 3/16" steel.

EDITED 7/2/13: After having to drop my radiator 1.5 inches to center it on the fan, I'm assuming my engine is 1.5 inches lower than stock.

Didn't want to just weld the mounts direct to frame. Cut some 3/16" angle to weld them to. It adds some strength and allows me to slide the engine if I need to when I get my crossmember.

Also bought some 1 1/2" exhaust tubing, a muffler, and some mandrel bends to fab up an exhaust. I bought some heat shield for the firewall too. I don't like that exhaust crossover back there without it.

I cut and slightly rotated the cat for proper positioning.

I cut off the flange and O2 sensor mount from the old exhaust pipe and welded it to the piece I bought from Summit. I'm going to use the heat shield from the donor truck above the cat.

Here's the whole system. I wanted a quiet muffler so I just used a DynoMax Turbo Muffler. I'm also using all the original hangers to hold it in place.

I fabbed up a line for the clutch slave using salvaged tubing from the donor. Also fabbed up fuel lines and mounted the factory fuel filter on the right inner fender.

Got the airbox fit and a lot of the little stuff done. Fabbed and mounted battery box and fuel tank evap. Also used salvaged fuel line to run the new vent line to fuel tank.

I couldn't find a radiator fan shroud that fit right so I'm fabbing one up out of some aluminum sheet I had. I'm WAAAAY out of practice TIG welding aluminum so it's going slow. I'll get pics up later.

Looking really good. I like quality builds that are done right.

Lets see more pics of the whole thing. I feel like I am being teased.

I am thinking a first gen Runner is in my future, so I will be following this thread closely. Please document and post lots!

I am taking plenty of pics and will post up as much as I can. I got a ton of info from this site and it's only fair that I also contribute.

I hate dead end threads.

Going kind of slow. I'm off work injured. Lots of time but, lots of pain. Also have some family issues going on.

It'll get there.

Slacker, I thought about it but, the pipe is sound, fits perfect and the sensor is pretty easy to get to.

I don't know if I could have made a decent two into one either.

Getting back to my swap as much as possible. I have a 10# weight limit after my back surgery so I really can't do much.

Got my fan shroud fabbed up. I haven't TIG welded in about 18 years so it ain't pretty. Especially thin aluminum.

Here it is getting prepped for paint.

The 3.4 fan was bigger than my radiator so I bought a 3.0 fan. It takes up most of my Turbo 3 row. Had to lower the rad 1.5 inches to center it on the fan. Here's some easy drop brackets I made.

Here it is painted up and mounted on the rad with the drop brackets. Fits perfect. The brackets let me use stock mounting holes and I didn't have to modify the radiator or the mounting holes in the rad support.

Only problem I had was the 3.0 fan. The trailing edges hit the front of the A/C clutch. I had to carefully shave a little off the back edge of each blade. Did my best to take the same amount off each blade so it isn't out of balance.

I used the 3.4 fan clutch which is supposed to be the same as the 3.0. Not sure why it hit. Aftermarket junk maybe? Anybody else have the 3.0 fan hit the A/C clutch?

I'll post up pics installed tomorrow. I have to pick up my 3.0 water outlet and lower hose.

Ok, Here's more pics. The rad and shroud fit perfect. I used a stock 3.4 lower hose as a top hose and a stock 3.0 lower hose cut to fit. Had to use a 3.0 water outlet also.

There is a gap at the top of the rad that will end up allowing some air to bypass the condenser so I'm going to put a piece of angle or some foam strip to block it. You can also see I used my old check valve from my 22RE brake booster line. I noticed the 99 donor didn't have one. Built into 99 booster?

You can see the evap vent line back on the firewall. I salvaged all the tubing I could from my donor. Just below the wiper motor you can see where I bent the original line that went to the stock 88 charcoal canister. I also straightened and added line to my clutch slave.
