Thanks for the compliment! Funny thing is, I don't have a DAY job. Straight graveyard shifts in a trauma center. I was a mechanic for 23 years. 15 years at a Caterpillar dealership. Their service manuals were like my write ups. Very detailed. Ex military so that probably rubbed off too.

This is my first modified 4x4 and I got most of my info from this forum. Marlin and Pirate too, but yotatech is the most friendly and has the specific swap sections. I'm just making sure I contribute my share after all I have taken.

One of the best 3.4 swaps I've seen besides my own hehe. I've seen some sketch swaps before where everything is just welded together or zip tied together. Hats off to you sir.

Drove it today! FINALLY!! Man what a difference from a 4 banger.

Only problem I had was some exhaust smoke when I let off the throttle at highway speeds. I thought, great, I have bad valve stem seals or rings or something. Only did it twice and stopped. The gas in my truck is about 6 months old and the engine had sat in a garage for years. Hopefully, I just had to blow the cobwebs out of it. Only has 40,xxx miles on it.

No CEL's, A/C blowing cold, power steering idle up works, shifts great, duals shifting good, clutch working good. No engine or trans leaks. Gauges all working. No over heating. No weird noises. Sounds great.

Never got the tach working. My dual adapter is seeping at the gaskets. Hopefully just needs a retorque. The driveline shop made my drive shafts too short. They said they would make it right.

I just need to tape up my harness and find a way to mount my ECM. It's bigger than my original and won't fit in the original spot.

Trying to decide if I want to put in some carpet or go with vinyl. It's a lot hotter and noisier with no flooring in it.

I need to go back and try to figure out why your shifter ended up so far forward..

It ended up forward because of a couple things.

Originally had a W56B with top shift T-case. Went to R151F with forward shift case. That alone puts the shifter about 4 inches forward IIRC.

Then going from a 22RE the engine moves forward about 3 more inches so the exhaust crossover clears the fire wall.

It wouldn't have been so far forward if I had used the R150F trans. I would have had to buy an adapter to use my gear drive cases though.

Great writeup on the cowl snorkel brother. I have to ask why didn't you just go straight from the throttle body through the firewall instead of going to the front of the truck and then backwards?

I still need an air filter. The straight shot would have been nice but, I would have no place for the filter.


I don't seem to have any restriction. It is basically the same as a store bought snorkel kit minus the exposed piping and riser. Plus I got to use the stock air box and it fits perfect. Under hood looks factory and I didn't spend extra money for an intake system.


I used as many OEM Toyota parts as possible from my donor truck. Saved money that way too.

I think I'll try that to go straight from the throttle body but still have a filter. Think it will work?

I think it would. Like BBP said, you need the MAF sensor in there too.
