3.0-->3.4 wiring assistance

I am in the middle of my 3.4 swap. I am interested in doing the wiring harness adaptation myself. My question is , I know that I need the 2 plugs off of the 3.0 wiring harness that go under the drivers side dash. What is the best way to determine what wires need to be lengthed and what wires need to be adapted to make the 3.4 motor work with the rest of the truck. Is it just the wires from those two plugs or am i gonna have to remove all of the protective covering from the harness and splice into it in some weird area. I have the wiring diagrams, just wondering what systems need to be adapted.

Also, is it better to do the harness while the engine and trans are out of the truck or should i install everything and do the harness in the truck?

1997 3.4/auto going into a 1995 used to be 3.0/auto. Thanks.

To figure out what you need this is what I did. Go through every wire using a EWD or FSM and figure out what one in your truck you are going to need. You will need essentials like tach, water temp, oil pressure, etc. Those are common on both trucks. Cap off everything that is not common for both truck like the AFM on the 3.0 etc.

I didnt use the cruise and my AC doesnt work so I didnt use those.

Get the motor in and run the harness from the 3.4 into the kick panel area THEN hook everything up.

ROFL. It was my dad in my case as I had my runner and both motors on stands in his shop. Seriously I think I have used his shop more than he has LOL. And x2 on what dntsdad said. It is a lot easier if you break down each component wire by wire. Don't look at the whole harness as a whole. Thats what got me frustrated.
