Transfer case fluid?

Transfer case fluid?
Hey everyone. I'm a noob to 4runners and just purchased a 88 22re 4x4, and since I bought it used, I want to start changing and replacing everything to know where I stand. I've searched and cant seem to find what my truck takes in the transfer case, I want to say gear oil but I want to make sure first, because I checked the level and the fluid inside looks like a mix of tranny fluid and gear oil 
Does it take gear oil all around?
