Timing chain and other parts

I just got my 89 4WD (22RE) last month and its at arlmost 183K. I read a scary post about a timing chain breaking at 182K! I already have an exhaust system on the list cause it needs one REALLY bad. And I figure i should get a new timing chain to be on the safe side. What aftermarket company do you suggest for timing chain as far as affordability goes. or should i go OEM?

What other parts should i check/replace? Im moving to denver this october and the last thing i want is something breaking on the way down there.

I just tried it and it worked (the url posted above).

If your looking for some good instructions try roger browns site if i remember right or just search for them. The ones I link to in that post have since gone down and I haven't spent the time to look for them or upload them somewhere... I think I still have them on my hard drive.

You best be would to go on e-bay and look around for a guy called engbldr, I can't remember the url to their website hopefully someone will chime in. He sells timing chain kits with both metal guides for pretty low price. And if it was me I would worry more about the timing chain then the exhaust. I could live with a loud sound then no sound at all.

Also, after reading your post over again, I would change the waterpump while your in there and any other parts that would be an easy replacement while you got the engine apart. Check the valve clearances also since you'll have the valve cover off.

If I get around to it later on today I'll post a link to the instructions on how to change the timing chain and find engbldr for ya.

There is one guy on ebay that sells them and goes by the name engbldr if I remember right. I have no experience with him but I remember seeing his feedback on ebay being very good and alot of good things are said about his stuff around the forums.

I've heard great stuff about engnbldr but if you want a good aftermarket kit use Altrom. They're madei in Japan and the kit is complete for MUCH cheaper than buying all the Toyota stuff individually.
