Lightbulb tail light fuse keeps blowing

I have a 2000 Tacoma Tacoma 4x4 and I was pulled over because I had no tail lights at all .. My flashers work , turn signals work but no tail lights .. So I replaced my fuse underneath the hood and it worked for a second then blew again .. Everytime I replace the fuse it blows .. Now I am lost and don't know why it is doing this or what to check to fix it .. any idea's ?Thank You

I would start by checking all the wiring going to the tailights. It sounds like there is a short in it somewhere.

If all else fails, off to the dealership you go.

Good Luck

Does it blow without the lights on?

If it blows only with the lights on (hope this is so), check the area around your tail lights, side markers, front park lights, and license late lights for any damage. If see any damage, check further to see if a wire is smashed behind it. Check you trailer harness if you have one.

DO NOT PUT IN A BIGGER FUSE! A melted harness will cost a lot more to repair than tracing out the short.

I second this oppinion. When not connected, all maner of dirt, salt, water and debris can get into the plug or wires and screw everything up. Most tail light, reverse light, turn signal, etc problems are traced to trailer circuits and related junk.

did you recently instal a cd player or speakers? I had kens instal a cd player and speakers and they screwed my junk up. I blew tail light fuses for two weeks and finally rewired it myself and have not had a problem since.

Wow, that's a new one. A stereo install causes the tail light fuse to blow. Who installed it, Mrs. Jones' Kindergarden class?

Check to see if the wires running to your hitch is rubbing against the spare tire.
