ps pump belt install issues

i'm currently wrapping up a timing belt/water pump job on my 92 3vze, but ran into a possible problem when reinstalling the ps pump belt

the belt, when set on the pulleys, and all pulleys torqued down, does not appear to run in parallel on all the pulleys. basically, it looks a bit like this:

top down view

..| <- belt on crankshaft pulleys (one on top and bottom)
./ <- belt path in between crankshaft pulleys and ps pump pulley
| <- belt on ps pump pulley

the belt seems to travel on different planes, about 1/8" apart. i dont know wether this is expected, wether theres some washer im missing, or wether there is a problem when i installed my pump. the belt doesnt travel in a single plane right now, whats the deal with it?

Well, if it was correct when you took it off, then you forgot a spacer or something. Did you have any leftover parts???

dont have any left over parts

FSM doesnt show any washers of any sort spacing the pulley from the pump

it just seems incorrect to me, and id like to hear from some mechanics with more experience on the 3vz

All I can think of is check you put the pulleys on the right way. It's been a while since I did my timing belt but I seem to remember some of the pulleys have a front and a back, ie the groove is not centered.
You'll definitely want to correct it before driving much, the belt won't last long like that.

Sounds like you might have the pully on backwards, probably has a "backspacing" on it that doesn't allow you to re-install it either way. Look for a spacer/washer that you might have missed as well.

not sure what the problem ever was, but i ended up making a spacer out of a washer by grinding out a slot for the locking pin. belt sits level with engine now

thanks for the help
