problem with rear drum brakes

I have a 1996 4runner and am having trouble with my rear drum brakes. It seems that everytime i press the brake, fluid leaks out of the slave cylinder(the one in the drum?) I took everything apart and had someone press the brakes while i saw everything move...it seems that some parts get stuck. Any ideas on what i should do. I havent driven my truck in 2 weeks!! What else should i replace while im at it?

Here is a pic of where it is leaking at.

Here is a pic of the metal thing that is supposed to catch all the time

EDIT: MODS PLZ MOVE THIS TO THE MAINT and REPAIRS SECTION. SORRY

replace the whell cylinder, and get a brake hardware kit, and some new shoes, and drums if needed....problem solved. If you want to just stop the leak, just replace the wheel cylinder

If you have fluid leaking from the wheel cylinder, the internal seals are shot.
You either have to rebuild the wheel cylinders, or replace them. It is usually easier to replace them. And from the looks of the pics, you should replace the brake shoes, and the adjuster hardware.

awesome info. I have new shoes and am about to order some new cylinders. Can i just go to the dealership and ask for the adjuster hardware? or should i go to Advance autoparts?

thanks

I'm having pretty much the same identicle problem right now and I have yet to take the drum off and see what all is going on. I just know that the wheel cylinder is leaking so I will be replacing those. I probably need new hardwear also since it hasn't been changed since 1996.

i agree with whats been said here... your wheel cylinder is leaking, you should replace the shoes and the cylinder and the hardware

I recently rebuilt the wheel cylinders on my Dodge. I've done my shoes and hardware on my Toyota, but never cylinders. Check prices, if it's cheaper, rebuild it. As long as the cylinder is not pitted, it is rebuildable. In agreement with everyone else, change the hardware and check the shoe wear. You might want to have your drums turned too (if they need it), while you have it taken down.
