Plumes of smoke?
#1
Alright now, this is kind of rediculous but whatever. The other day I was pulling out of my street onto Carmel Rd. when all of a sudden the cab was filled with smoke and behind me thats all I could see. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil levels and my oil pressure gauge, I had been running a little bit low oil pressure but I had enough in there so I drove it home. (2 minutes away) I'm just looking around under the engine trying to think of what it could be. I called a couple of friends and they suggested it was running rich. Which I guess means more gas than oil in the mixture. I then took off my air filter to see if it all looked good in there....no way. There is oil in my mass air flow sensor. How did this happen? I was told that the oil that was supposed to be sucked in by the throttle body at the other end of the intake had slid down the intake and into the mass air flow sensor.
Question 1:
Would this explain the huge plumes of smoke?
Question 2:
Could I also have a bad sending unit for my oil pressure gauge?

Well son...
I'd bet good money you've blown a headgasket. Check your radiator. It's probably low on coolant. Time to overhaul, or replace that 3.0.
Now can drop something in there big enough to haul them fat ladies that don't lose weight.

How likely is it that I blew a head gasket?

Could he have a intake valve or 2 that is not sealing to the head allowing oil to be pushed up into the plenum? How does oil make its way all the way to the air flow meter, if the intake is under vacum (pulling air thru it)? Just wondering outloud?

Blown headgaskets blow white smoke or steam. Sounds like you avoided the grim reaper this time. Grey or blue smoke is usually burning oil. Black like you diagnosed, is usually running rich.
Your cold start injector pours extra fuel into the intake manifold to richen the mixture when it gets to the cylinders. lf you pull the injector, you may see that it's damp with fuel from leaking. Pulling the wire to it also should close the injector unless it's leaking.
