PCV Valve replacement

How do you change pcv valve on my 95 truck with 2.4 litre? I found it and would like to change it and it seems like it is stuck in the motor. I grabbed it with pliers and it still would not come out.

Thanks

pull harder, it will come out, the grommet has just hardened around it, get a new grommet too

Would "PB Blaster" or even "RUST EATER" work for helping to get it out???

yeah I had to pull real hard, just apply constant pressure and pull real hard...like you are trying to pull a tree stumpout of the ground...or like you are trying to pull your friends Rav4 out of a puddle

also throw some slicone lubricant on there while you are at , that might loosen it a bit.

If the engine is at full operating temp. , then that can help too.

Have fun,
Tom

i suggest taking off the valve cover...then you can get at it from both sides.

also, the problem with just yanking it out with the valve cover still on the engine when it is stuck is you could break off pieces of it...or tear off pieces the grommet...and, if you do, they will fall down into your valve train and could cause problems.

takes all of about 5 minutes to pull the valve cover...another 5 to put it back on.

Another suggestion would be to use a pair of spark plug "boot pliers".
They're like a pair of long needle nose pliers, but with a rounded jaw (to fit aroung the plug cap) & 30-45 degree bend in them (to get a good, horizontal grip on them) to ease in removal by leveraging against the valve cover, in this instance.

I hada hell of a time removing mine as well.

Some one here told me a trick, I forget who (Sorry, I'd like to give the credit)

Anyway, I took vise grips and clamped them on the pcv valve. I put a small wood block on the valve cover just under the vise grips. I then use a rubber mallet to whack the vise grips against the wood block. That popped it out. a very small piece of the grommet fell in so I just reached in the hole with needle nose pliers and grabbed it. Make sure you inspect it for broken pieces.

But it was a lot easier than pulling it out. Give that a try. Oh yeah, you're gonna need a new grommet....trust me.
