oil change

so far i've always taken my runner to the local 76 station or the like for an oil change. but i think it's high time i start doing it myself. i'm thinking of going to the mobil 1 5w-30 oil, but was just wondering if i need to do anything special to go from the dino oil to this one. or if there's another suggested oil i should use, short of amsoil? thanks.

From what I understand, some kind of flush is suggested? I asked about it a few months ago and everyone suggested a flush (going to Amsoil) that you leave running through your engine for like 15 min. or something. Not sure...

Someone else will probably be able to answer your question better.

I talked to a guy at Off Road Warehouse here in SD and he mentioned that he's never heard of this flush before and that people switch dino to synthetic all the time without it and without any problems.

Any suggestions anyone?
How important IS the flush?

I don't think a flush is necessary but i'm not about to tear my engine apart to find evidence one way or the other.

Some of those yahoos out there drain a quart of oil and add a quart of Diesel and drive around some at all RPMs to dissolve deposits. Then they drain it, put in the synth and call it good. I can't reccomend that but some say it does the same thing at 1/16th the cost of canned engine flush.

Amsoil recommends the flush. It is a can of liquid for, like, $4.00. You drop it in, run the truck for 10 -15 min at 1500 rpms (I am trying to do this by memory by the way), and drain it out. That's it.

Do you NEED to? No. But Amsoil recommends it. Better adhesion for their oil and no other oil to get in the way and mix with their's. What do you have to lose besides another 15 min?

The Supersyn formula is much better than the try-syn formula. Go to this website and look in the virgin oil analysis and used oil analysis forums and you can see the numbers are pretty good.

Oil Filter relocation kit

I just tried to change my oil = success. Filter however was a different story, PITA (Royal type 1 each). Its like taking a damn puzzle apart just to get to it. My question, have any of you used a relocation kit for your filter. If so, what brand would you suggest? I can't see taking the GD'd truck apart everytime I want to change my oil.

Its on my 2003. Thanks in advance.

Doug

EDIT: I have found the info on another thread, So please disregard!

oil change

Droping the pan to change the oil filter is really not that hard and it only takes a few minutes.
The only time you need a flush is if you are switching over from an older engine and you see a lot of sludge in the oil. If it's clean and fairly new you don't need it.
My local Walmart and others will put in the Synthetic oil for you . If they don't sell it just take it with you. They charge you for labor only. I do suggest that you use the Toyota oil filters. Mike
