Need NEW 05' 4Runner V6 engine!!!

Aloha dudes and duddettes,

My gf's 2005 SR5 4Runner V6 engine is all messed up cause I put in a wrong oil filter and she just ran it to the ground.
In any case the Toyota dealer wanted $18,000.00 to replace the engine. Is there anywhere else I could go to get a rebuilt (replacement) '05 Toyota engine?
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you very much,
Scotty

Wow, you're SCREWED. Your only option is the junk yard. Nobody is rebuilding 1GR-FE engines yet because I think you're officially the first person to need a replacement of that engine type. Congratulations on attaining such a prestigious milestone. If anyone does ever rebuild these blocks it'll be at least 2 centuries before there's enough market demand to warrant making money on them, these are Toyotas afterall.

sorry but......GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA A

lemme guess, not using a toyota oil filter?

You can try a wrecking yard, but in Hawaii, there are not many toyota parts, especially used. Put it this way....here in washington, at a Toyota only wrecking yard, the newest 4Runner we have is an 03, and the only reason we have it is becuase the whole thing burned to the ground...i think we salvaged the frame, thats it.

I say, put an original filter back on it, then take it to them and say "um, its busted" and see what they do.

if you dont put it on correctly or it doesnt fit correctly becasue its the wrong filter, it can literally be a hole and all you oil under pressure can go out through it.....

I do not condone lying and not fessing up to your mistakes but 18,000?!?!?!?!?! Screw that, I agree put an OEM filter on it and have it towed in. If they start getting suspicious start the whole "I could have been killed!!!!" crap.

18k is borderline retarded. thats so high I actually dont believe it. I wonder if I can buy a 4runner with no motor for 10k?...

btw how did you put the wrong filter on?...what happened exactly? usually as long as it fits it will kinda work alot of people put on oversized filters for better flow and higher oil capacities, of course it has to be the same diameter. Thats if it didnt hang over the edges and spray the oil out of the motor, or somehow block the oil from moving.

Man, that is just FUBAR. I have to agree with the other posts, how did a problem with the oil filter cause the engine to tank? Even if it was a model without an anti-drainback valve, it should only take 1-2 seconds to fill the filter back up. Hardly long enough to cause immediate engine damage, IMHO. And if it didn't seat right, and leaked the oil out, the check engine indicator should have been going off like gang busters. I gotta think something weird is going on here...........

It's going to be a tough search to find one of those engines, unless you keep and eye on Ebay. I have seen several 'new' 4Runners that were damaged either in transit or shortly after which someone was selling as-is.

or he read over all this and seen we were offering no help....the 05 4.0 is just like the 04 right?....where can we find this engine for sale?

Most likely a troll though....dealership would have lost their minds if they think they could charge 18k for a motor and install. If that motor does cost that much to replace an engine I think I'll rearrange my list of future vehicles heheh

Besides, who fesses up to blowing a motor from not being able to properly change an oil filter?...lol...
