Mass Air Flow Meter question

I have a 99 4 Runner "Highlander" 3.4L and I am getting a lean fuel code. Can I clean the Mass Air Meter? Any other suggestions as what to do? I love the board. So many mods to do to my 4 runner so little time in the day! Thanks for any help.

All to familar......code 171 left bank lean - I ended up changing out my front 02 sensor..but cleaning the MAF did the trick! - gently remove it and clean with a contact cleaner and nylon brush, if thats all it needs-the code will clear itself after approx 5 cycles (start-turn off) thats what mine did.
