I almost could have drank it!

The water in my front diff, that is. I was changing the oil in my tranny, t-case, and diffs today. When I got to my fron diff (Truetrac inside) I put the socket on the drain bolt and started to trun. It spun freely! The bolt was completely loose! I pulled it out and all that came out was black water...only enough oil in there to discolor the water. Luckily I haven't used the front end a whole lot since I put it in, and every thing has been reall low speed, so I hope there is no heat damage. We'll see! :pat:

Yikes!!! I came close to losing my rear drain plug recently. I noticed tiny oil spots on the tailgate when fueling after some highway driving. Out came the 24mm that I don't leave home without and I tightened it up.

When I got home I drained it and the oil looked clean and pretty new with the normal fine particles on the magnet. I decided it was clean enough to re-use. I also used a dab of blue thread locker on it so it dosen't try to leave me again.

I'm pretty sure it started to loosen when I drug the rear diff over a nice pointy rock not too long ago. The protector ring had to be ground away a bit just to get the 24mm in there on the plug. The plug itsself was kinda mangled as well. I'm not sure thread locker will help but its worth a shot.

If you have a welder, a good trick is to weld a bead of support around the protector ring.

...makes it super-strong!
