Here I go..........

Alright, here is my problem..... 1982 4wd pickup
sometimes while i am driving down the road my brake AND charge light come on for no apparent reason. performance is not hindered in any way. plus sometimes if i pull the park brake out some and push it back in the lights will go out. i have already checked the wires that go to the parking brake switch and they are fine. the charging system is fine as well. any ideas as to what might cause this. i am at wits end with this annoyance HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! ................................................. lights go on...lights go off........lights go on..............................................li ghts go off

The brake light could be the fluid level in the reservoir - you'll wanna check it.

not the brake fluid, it is full, plus the brake light and charge light come on simultaniously, and go off at the same time.
unless there is something in the fluid reservoir switch that would make both lights come on? i dont know im open to any possible solution at this point
thanks

When both the brake and charge light came on in mine, it was the alternator dying. If you're confident your alternator is fine, then check your battery, cables, all your belts, etc.
Good luck and let us know what you find

On my 83 they both stay on all the time. Every once in a while they will flicker. My alternator is charging and all my battery connections are good. I just ignore them, they have been on since I bought it over a year ago, and my battery is always charged and it always starts right up.

Smile its ok

My 85 2wd dose this; it is the wires that send the signal to the cab telling you your alternator is charging. My wires are lose and if I wiggle it while the truck is running the lights will go off and on. Some times it is the parking brake and I just push it in all the way. It is still charging. Well when the belt isn’t trying to come off.

thanks, could you tell me what wires you wiggle to get your lights to go out. i can slam my parking brake all the way down and it will turn the lights off sometimes, i'm just wondering what wires it is so i can tightten them up.

it could be the "Charge Light Relay" located behind your glove box, heres a link to a thread at pirate that somewhat shows it

im going to pursue the charge light relay avenue. i just pulled mine out and opened it up and tapped around on it and went and put it back in and the lights went off. maybe that is a weak link. i read on the other forum that a guy went to napa and picked up a relay and made his own, and that is probably what i will end up doing for the long term solution. thanks.
