Well, everything does end up in the ocean.
I have a few surfer friends that will go surfing in the rain and come back with sore throats and other symptoms because of the nasty run-off.

Yeah, they don't learn.

Spray-9 works great but is hard to find. It is an awsome degreaser/cleaner. If Spray-9 cannot be found, Simple Green is the next best thing. Good luck.

Anyone ever had their engine steam cleaned? I saw somewhere that offered that service.

I agree with the Spray-9 we use it at work so I have free access to it, along with using Gunk. Simple green worked but after a FMS leak and your engine bay is covered with oil from the fan blowing it around, nothing beats Gunk. I didn't need to cover any of the electronics, seeing as they were all water proofed with the nice thick layer of oil on them. All of them can be found at your local auto parts store.

Also so you can convince your wifes/girlfriends to let you buy gallons of it, Spray-9 is also nice to use in the house since it is also anti-microbial and anit-bacterial. Great for cleaning up in the kitchen and bathroom.

I got my civic engine steam-cleaned at a Honda dealer once. Since then, they outlawed steam cleaning in all dealerships that i called, and there is only one place in San Jose that does it. The guy wanted $150 to do the whole thing, the top of the motor and the underside included. $150 is a lot of money though, Simple Green sounds like a much better fix IMO.

A local detailing shop uses Purple Power (degreaser) from walmart to clean the engine compartments.

They buy it from our local walmart by the cases. it is about 3 1/2 dollars a gallon.

Mean Green

I usually use a combination of Gunk and Mean Green (from the dollar store). I have found that Mean Green, the generic of Simple Green, actually works considerably better and it is cheaper. I usually pressure wash non electrical areas of my 3.0 after soaking it with those ingredients.

If the engine isn't really greasy. I'll use ERA laundry soap mixed with a bit of steaming hot water. Use a spray bottle to spray it. Let it set for a few minutes. And rinse it off. I like this idea cause ERA won't harm paint, hoses, belts, etc. On the other hand, if the engine is really greasy. I use this citrus based cleaner called BIG ORANGE. I think ZEP makes that stuff. I just take it from work.

i use purple power and gunk. purple power for the thick stuff around the engine bay and directly on the engine bay. usually put it on a cloth and wipe (or scrape) the dirt/grease away. gunk, i just spray and let it sit. spray with regular hose water. then wait till it dries a bit and use the gunk detailer to detail all the rubber/plastics so they'll be super shiny.
