Different Weights of Oil

Ok noob here so if I said something completely wrong please let me know so I can learn. Just bought some Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil 10-30 for my 2000 Acura Integra Type R and for the 89 Toyota (4wd, 5spd v6 with 184K miles). Great price $3.99 a quart at Pep Boys, their sale price with a coupon until March 25th. I have done only two oil changes since I bought the truck in October 2004, first oil change used Castrol 10-40 with Toyota filter, 2nd oil change mechanic used after market filter and I think Penzoil 10-40, had them do a minor maintenance to make sure nothing seriously wrong with the truck. I used the 10-40 because it was recommended for higher mileage vehicles. After I did my research (not enough because I didn’t know Mobil 1 didn’t make a 10-40) I will be switching the truck to Mobil 1 10-30 Full Synthetic. Are there any problems or things I should be aware of when switching to a different weight of oil (10-40 to 10-30)? I am aware that there is a chance oil could start leaking when I switch to synthetic, there aren’t any leaks now so I hope there won’t be any after the switch. How will switching to 10-30 weight oil and synthetic affect my truck? Thanks in advance.

Should be fine. If you change to syn. you may want to flush the system first to get any slugg(sp) buildup out. Hope fully after that there will be no leaks.

Thanks Paul H. and CynicX for the replys. I didn't do the flush, was worried removing the build up would just be enough for the syn oil to leak out. I tighten the visible nuts I could see on the oil pan before I did the oil change on Sunday. I think the truck burns oil because just under 4 qts came out, and I added about half a quart a month ago, but I don't know if the mechanic put in 4 or 5 qts when they did the minor maintenance. I read in the Chilton's that mine should take 4.8 qts, so this time I just put in 5 qts and used a Toyota oil filter. Hopefully the benefits of Syn will grace me with the reduced oil burn. Thanks again guys for the replies.

the detergents in the syn will clean it out before long anyway....And although I would think syn would burn more (i know it burns at higher temps) it seems to me it would get past the rings easier...but on every account i've read it reduces burned oil....good luck...

You run 10-30 in the B18C5? Isn't that a touch "heavy?"

I thought the manual recommended 5 - 30 and some even go to 0 - 20?

Just curious.

Originally I thought 10-30 was heavy also but, the redline, which I think is 8400, and the way I drive it (drive it like you stole it) pushed me to a heavier oil. I checked a couple sites and alot of the people run with 10-30 in their Type Rs.
