Air Flow Meter and Code 31
My truck backfired the other day and started running funny - wouldn't rev past 4k and hardly idled. I jumper'd the computer and code 31 came up. Checked the FSM and it said Air Flow Meter and some ways to test it. I tested it and had infinite resistance on all but one test. I cut the silicone and opened the cover to find the black plastic arm snapped in half, 3 soldered connections broken loose, and the copper contact arm bent upward just slightly enough to not make contact.
Well, some solder on those contacts, bending the arm back down just slightly, and some super glue on the plastic did the trick. No more check engine light and the motor runs fine.
Just an FYI if you are having the same problems. I'll post a picture this weekend.
