Air Filter

So I was under the hood this weekend admiring all the mud on my engine. Checked on the air filter and noticed that it had small bits of leaves and stuff stuck in it.

Is this normal? Would there be any advantage to screening off the intake sort of how the deckplate mod is done? The stock airfilter looks like it does a decent job of stopping all that stuff but I did have to clean it out on some parts as it was clogged.

Yeh, hopefully most of the leaf bits were caught. It's just kind of weird that leaves are being sucked into the air filter box. I couldn't imagine putting a high flow air filter in there, maybe Amsoil, that lets more stuff through like the TRD air filter.

I was mostly wondering if anyone had screened off the stock intake in some fashion akin to the deck plate mod without actually having the mod.

From what I've seen from other people's write-ups and pics here on YT, I don't think too many people bother with the screen for the above mentioned reaons. Still, it would look pretty nice...

Let me rephrase that. "I couldn't imagine putting in a high flow air filter, OTHER THAN Amsoil, such as the TRD air filter as it lets more garbage through."

I have elbow mod and Amsoil air filter. I bought a piece of fiberglass screening (like you put on your kitchen door) and cut a square, then used a big hose clamp to cover the opening.

But, out one day with the wife perusing a craft store, I found that a circle of tulle - used for wedding favors - would fit perfectly and is a smaller weave. Dunno if you can buy one all buy itself, but even a pack of em is probably less than a yard of screening. Of course, if you're like me, you don't mind having some extra screen for the junk pile - never know when you might need it for something else!
