im trying to swap a sbc in my 89' 4x4 pickup, and i was woundering if a lift was needed at all.

i havent decided weather im gonna use the adapter to my stock tranny or getting a tb350, i gues it depends on what cheaper and eaiser. any info is greatyl appreciated

Yes.

2 or 3 inch body lift for clearance up top.

Suspension lift or a special oil pan for clearance on the bottom.

Or a solid axle swap.

 

so if i do a solid axle swap in the front, i wont need a lift, and if need be just drop shackles for the rear??

With the SAS, you can mount the engine low enough to not need a body lift but the SAS involves a bit of lift on its own. There are threads in the solid axle swap section covering low lift conversions.

Beware. I'm using a 700R4 and NP208 with no body lift. What I gained by not lifting the body, I lost from the transfer case hanging too low. Really low. It needs to be rotated up but that's a task for another day.

 

i have a 91 with a 350 /turbo350 advance adapter to the stock case mine just has a stock pan reshaped via 5pd. hammer not pretty but it works . i have a 3"bl and the chevy hei dist. its pretty tight with the sas and b/l you can drop the engine mounts low enough to get the distributor off the firewall or you could swap a ford motor in which is what i wish mine had ..... either way a v8 in a yota is a lot of fun nothin like smoking some 33's down the road

 

im doing a 350 swap right now and if you go to advanced adapters they actually have a booklet for chevy v8/v6 swaps, they say it is best to have a sas with suspention lift and they recommend a body lift of at least 2" for better clearince. but another thing to think about with a 350 swap its a little harder for the fact that the distributer is in the back of the motor unlike a ford with the distributer in the front. for me i already had a built 350 in my garage but even if i didnt i could put a ford motor in my truck, im too much of a chevy guy

 

What kind of clutch set up are guys running with a stock sr5 5spd. Is there something Gm offers with flywheel and pressure plate set up with factory sbc flywheel that will fit the input shaft of the tranny? I dont want to have to flywheel drill to mate the the toyoya clutch? or is that what i have to do. Im building a chevy 283 and trying to run it with stock 5spd for now. 2 in bl. with 3 in suspension lift. I would like to see what people have to say..
