New 22re Short Block

Hello, I'm new here so bare with me....

I have an '88 pickup with 22re. Last summer, I did the head gasket, complete timing overhaul and new oil/water pumps. The engine has just over 100K. Runs very strong. Engine has always held its fluids...... until recently.

I just noticed what I believe to be a hairline crack in the #2 cylinder water jacket..... coolant is seeping (not dripping) out of the block. I tried Blue Devil sealer and followed the instructions to every last detail..... no luck.

What it comes down to is that I have to pull the motor regardless. Welding the crack is sketchy and I figure if I already have the motor out, I might as well do a complete rebuild. I'm with the belief that it is always better to do the job the right way the first time.

So my plan is to get a short block and add to that engnbuilder's upgraded head with larger valves.

My question is: I have read a lot of negative feedback about Japan Engine and their used engines. However, they offer a brand new 22re short block for $895. Should I steer clear of this company? It seems like a reasonable price if in fact this truly is a brand new short block.

Any comments/suggestions/recommendations are truly appreciated. Thank you.
