Question Good Swap for an '82 toy 4x4

I recently picked up my first Toyota pickup and it has 265,000 miles on it. Obviuosly it smokes and is under powered, so I was thinking about an engine swap. I searched all over and can't find any info on swaps for older trucks.

What would be agood swap for my truck? Also, I can pick up a Chevy 307 for $100, how hard would it be to put that in there? Sorry for all the newb questions. TIA

Austin

Im in the process of putting a sb ford 302 in my 83 very simple if it is carbed. I used a two barrel intake with a holley 350 carb. Going to put MSD distributor, ignition box and coil also. simple and very little wiring. The tranny is a NP435 with granny low 1st gear adapted to a toy case with 4.70 kit very strong and simple. IMO

Look up Downey off Road. They offer just about anything you would need to do the job, along with a lot of info about swaps. They mainly deal with domestic transplants.
