The 2lt we got here in the USA (likely the engine that you would swap in place of the 22re) would only produce 86 hp and 139 ft·lb

well from personal experience, i would much rather have the 3.0 than the 2.4. i have a 92 xtra cab and the 3.0 and im living up here in northern idaho and going up and down mountains every day it does great. even on gas. now my buddy has a 86 4runner and the 2.4 and we swiched rigs one day and there is a big difference in power between the 2. im able to pass cars doin 55 up a hill np at about 70-80. while my buddy can barley go above 35.

just my 2 cents

now as soon as i get money im gonna swich out for the 3.4 and hes gonna do the supra swap seeing as the 3.4 is a direct bolt up for mine and the supra for his

Now, regarding the diesel swap, that's precisely how I ended up with the 3VZ-E sitting around! My brother took it out of the 2wd and put in a 2L (which was one big pain in the a$$ in all its own rights). I'm not too crazy about that engine myself. I WILL LOVE to do the diesel swap myself, but that's further down the road. Unlike the gas engines, diesels ARE expensive here! I'm aiming at a 3L or hopefully a 5L, but not yet. When the time is right, I'll start a different thread! =P Thanks for your .02!! Greatly appreciated!!
swap in a cummins turbo diesel....id LOVE to see that swap...

80's pickup trucks. Most all of them 2wd's. Pretty hard to find though. Most ive come across are in bad shape as well.
