Also wondering what wiring issues I would run into if I put a older 22r in this truck

The head to the block should be good to go. The EFI on the other hand is a maybe. First off the pigtails may not be the same (prob wont be) and then theres the matter of which intake are you gonna use on it? Or I guess what Im asking is what year is the intake? B/c after I think 84 or 85 the EFI's changed and would no longer work on the carb heads without mods to the head and intake. LOL Oh and all the wiring in these trucks are a disaster if they ever get taken apart. But dont worry just take your time. But if you plan on just droping a carbed engine in it then the wiring wont be a issue. May have a check engine light come on but thats bout all. You will have to put a fuel regulator before the carb to bring the fuel pressure down to around 6 or 7 psi b/c of the fuel pump in the gas tank.

The year of the head is gonna play a part in this. Depending what year it is will determine if it will fit the block and work right. Heres a link to another fourm on here that sounds about like your question bro. If it dont then hollar and Ill help all I can.

Yeah I've read a couple I'm either gonna use the carb motor and make a 20 r hybrid or get a 22re from a junkyard. What all would I need to do to the truck to run carbed? Like wiring and what not

Just keep up with the ALT wires and that should be about it. They dont have any sensors on them. There is a few that wires that run to the carb but Im not sure what they do. Im sure they have something to do with the choke. This is why I aint the best with wireing.. I put a V8 in mine and pretty much did away with most of the wiring on it when I did. If you pull the motor then just unplug the harrnes from the computer behind the kick panel and pull the wires back thru the firewall. from what I remember when I did it the only wires that should be left in the truck are the ones for the starter the ALT the sensor wires will come with the engine when pulled.

From previous experience: Buy a beater and take your time finishing the truck. The added stress of trying to fix a truck you need to go from a to b just makes you cut corners you'll later regret, or that's my experience anyway, lol.
