4.3 swap help!!!

okay you guys are gonna hate me for this but ya. Ok so ive got a lot of questions on a 4.3 swap and ill list them haha

1. what all do i need to do as far as a computer if i go with a 4.3 vortec (efi)?

2. if i go with a t.b.i 4.3 would i be able to just swap a after market carb to use insted of having a computer?

3.fuel lines, do i need special adapter from toyota to chevy?

4.will the fuel pump work for the carb or efi?

5.do i have to have a lift to put a 4.3 in my truck?

6.is this any harder to do than just a 22re swap to a 22re?

7. if i go with the efi how would i work out the gadges as far as temp, oil pressure, rpm?

8.would it be just easyer to buy engine mounts instead of making my own?

thanks for any and all help cuz i know a lot of people have done it i just am lost

i'll try to help on some of these.

"1. what all do i need to do as far as a computer if i go with a 4.3 vortec (efi)?"
it would be best to get the pcm/wiring harness/engine from the same vehicle. take the complete harness from the firewall connection (this will leave you with more connector ends to reference when building your harness). take intake plumbing for MAF sensor. 00-02 S10s are a good choice because some of them use the 411 PCM. the 411 is capable of much faster computing and you can tune it on the fly.

"2. if i go with a t.b.i 4.3 would i be able to just swap a after market carb to use insted of having a computer?"
yes you could. this can also be done with the vortec 4.3 and you could take advantage of the better flowing heads.

"3.fuel lines, do i need special adapter from toyota to chevy?"
tbi = no
vortec = you might need to redo the whole fuel system with an EFI vortec.

"4.will the fuel pump work for the carb or efi?"
for a tbi or carb, it should be fine. for the efi vortec, no. you need around 50psi of fuel pressure and depending on how good of shape your old fuel lines are, redo the whole thing.

"5.do i have to have a lift to put a 4.3 in my truck?"
nope.

"6.is this any harder to do than just a 22re swap to a 22re?"
yes.

"7. if i go with the efi how would i work out the gadges as far as temp, oil pressure, rpm?"
aftermarket gauges.

"8.would it be just easyer to buy engine mounts instead of making my own?"
yes, buy them. sure you could make your own, but in the time you used making/adjusting them, you could be that much further ahead by just bolting it in.

you will need a custom oilpan to clear the ifs and prolly a bunch of other things i'm missing.

I didnt read the post below me, so i might repeat some things

1) You can run 2 computers, the stock one for all the regular junk, and the 4.3 one for the motor.

2) Just go with a tbi, better than a carb and not much harder to wire.

3) Not sure on that.

4) Stock fuel pump will work on a carb and TBI. CPI needs more pressure and bigger lines.

5) You need either a modified steel oil pan. Or a 3-4 inch bracket lift to clear the diff.
A minimum 2 inch body lift is also needed to clear the firewall. And with a TBI a 3" to clear the hood. (that all can be solved with some cutting and a BFH, but body lift really helps.)

6) Yes. More involved. But get the parts you need through advance adapters and use a toyota r series trans and the motor will bolt in. Wiring is the hard part.

7) The toyota temp and oilpressure guages can be used on the 4.3 block, it just takes minor modifications to adapt them. I beleive you can use a toyota 3.0 tach with the 4.3.

8) Yes, buy the AA motor mounts, the ones you get will be bolt in, not weld in because of the torsion bars. You can save some money making your own. But if you have it to spend then get the AdvanceAdapter mounts.

Download or order the AA book on v6 and v8 swaps. Its nice to be able to read it while your sitting on the can
