I'm in abit of a pickle. Seems I have either blown my HG near the exhaust chambers or I have a crack in my head so it's time for a new motor, I have another 3vze motor lined up but its coming from a factory manual hilux surf/4runner. Mine is factory auto. Apart from the obvious is there anything I need to change when I swap motors over? Like is the flywheel bolt pattern the same? Is the bell housing bolt positions the same? I havent taken my motor out yet and probably wont before I pickup the bee motor. So thought I would come here and ask for advice before I move forward. I'm sorry if this has already been answered somewhere in the forums, I searched but had no luck.

The 3vz auto and manual trans both use the same bolt pattern for both the bell housing and crankshaft. Your new engine should slide right in without a fuss.

 

do I need to remove spigot bearing?

 

No it should be fine to leave it in the crank if you don't feel like removing it.

 

Thanks for your reply. however you do have to remove it. I didnt bother yesterday and I could not get the trand to line up, 1 side will get close to bolted and other side wouldnt, I removed spigot bearing and on 2nd attempted the trans slipped right in 😉

 

Interesting, I don't remember anything using that hole on the auto application. Anyways, glad you got it

 

I didnt think so either. But pulling motor out and looking at the end of the torque converter it's clear as day what needed to go where. Good to know for future reference and hopefully my thread will help someone else. I attached photos showing the end of my trans 😝

 

Yep centering lug on TC, you won't be happy if you bent or broken this.
