1985 4x4 PickUp Work Truck Swap Options...

I Have a 1985 4x4 PickUp with a really tired 22RE that i'd like to replace with something with a little more gut. I'm using it as a work truck for me and my dad who's a landscaper by proffesion. We use the truck for work (hauling rocks, wood or earth; getting trees down, etc) and I'm already planning to put a dump box on it as my me college final project (I'm studying mechanical engineering)

so I need the new engine to have a bit more power than the 22re.

I already look at the different swaps that have been made here on the forums and my option i think would go for a GM V6 or a Toyota V6 or V8

I was looking for your thoughts about what would be the best option fr what we're going to do wit the truck

I'd really like to go with the 3.4 or the 4.0L V8too, but damn these engines are hard to find up here!!!!
For now it would be a 5m or 7m... or a GM V6... but i'm just testing waters here, gonna start the project this spring when that fluffy white stuff melts from the ground

Ok so still going towards a 7m or gm v6 but what would be better if I want to keep an automatic transmission?
