i got stuck today, had my rear-end buried up to the exaust pipe in mud and water. i was just wondering what i could have maybe screwed up. the exaust was blowing bubbles for about 3 hours, i didn't know if i should cut it off or not so i didn't.

the hi-lift and come-along both wouldn't budge it, so a good'ole boy with a tow truck winched me out.

like i said i was just wondering if i should check anything, i did the extended rear diff breather, but didn't know if anything else.

if it was just your rear that got messy... just wipe everything real good... wait... uh

I don't know about the e-locker, but I would take apart the rear brakes and clean em up/out.... were they submerged for three hours? and you just sat there with it running the whole time also? Also maybe pop the rear diff fill plug and stick your finger in, or suck a little out with the same type of "really big hand soap dispenser pump" that you can use to fill it, just to check

 

i tried to get it out, it was in a river flood plane, just one thing after the other, but thats how it goes. the first tow truck came and said he wouldn't even go down the hill on gravel, but then the other showed up and vola.

a front mounted winch wouldn't have done me any good, so i'm thinking about a black rat.

the truck driver took pictures, do to "extreme situation" so they can get more out of AAA, he said he would send them to me, so we'll see.

 

ouch, that sucks if AAA gets the pics...

I read in my progressive crap they gave me they don't cover off-road damages on collision/comprehensive policy, and don't cover vehicles with a suspension raised or lowered to enable the car to go faster. I don't remember what AAA's stance was before I was booted, except they don't cover vehicles used in any type of organized race

 

if that's their policy. i would never use their crappy insurance.

 

If your muffler is totally underwater it's never a good idea to turn the truck you could suck H20 into the engine.

 

thats why i just left it running

 

any time you drive onto any sort of track your insurance becomes void.

As for off-road stuff.....you really need to read your specific policy to find out what is and isn't covered.

Yes, keep it running at all cost. I had my engine cut out while sunk in the muck like that no too long ago. I got it started within about 20 seconds, but some mud had already flowed into the exhaust pipe about a foot or so. The hot exhaust dried the mud quickly and restricted my exhaust. Anyway, it was a good thing I knew to look for that crap in there. Not fun cleaning it out.

 

I think more than the fear of sucking water ALL the way to your engine is letting the back half of the exhaust pipe fill with water, then imagine the backpressure in the exhaust and trying to start the engine again....it will almost never start in that situation...

 

And that's the way it's supposed to be done.

 

nice man, good to hear you didnt have any damage from the muck. Your lucky it wasnt GA red clay...this stuff SUCKS

 

That's for sure. I've had my exhaust pipe underwater quite a ways, and it makes so much back pressure that the engine was nearly impossible to keep from stalling. RPM's drop really low, the truck has no power, it's not a situation I like to be in.

 

i know all about GA clay, i was at ft.benning for 5 years, the ☺☺☺☺ gets caked on the inside of your wheel and it will throw it out of balance in a heartbeat, and you need a jackhammer if it dries.
