Ok guys so a couple weekends ago I went mudding and got stuck in the mud. 2wd! lol but I was just wondering if my rear axel was sitting in mud for awhile is there any "tips/tricks" i should do? Like should i pull the drums and spray them out? Repack bearings? anything? I have searched... Thanks guys!

 

Make sure you didn't get any water in you rear diff through the breather, unless you've extended. Another than that I always just power wash everything real well, you'll know if your bearings need repacked.

 

A lot depends on the muds consistency. If it was real soupy watery mud than you should remove the drums and clean your breaks out well with break parts cleaner. Buy a few cans. Be careful power washing around your front breaks though.

 

I agree with cleaning the drums. If they aren't working properly, then the front brakes will be working too hard and may end up warping the rotors. After that, I would just keep an eye on the inside of the wheels just to make sure that no gear oil is seeping past the inner seals. If you start to notice any gear oil you will want to replace the inner seals as soon as possible so you don't wash all the grease out of the bearings. You can't repack the bearings on your truck really. A new one will have to be pressed on if it needs replacing.

you guys forgot a very MAJOR component that gets fouled easy in mud.

Your front wheel bearings. You should repack them.

 

you might as well repack the front wheel bearings if you have the time and tools (and grease); check the diff fluids; get under your truck with a hose and clean it all out by hand.

i love mud. and i am fine with the consequences of playing in it my neighbors hate me for it. i usually bring home a few hundred pounds of it on/under my truck and it falls onto the street

 

Haha yeah! I usually wash off @ my girlfriend's house so my girlfriends neighbors are the ones that have to deal with me.

 

i use the power sprayer in my driveway and when the mud gathers at the end, i just push it in front of the tweaker neighbors house. haha

 

Re-pack your spindle after you do your wheel bearing, too.
A dry-spindle chatters like the dickens..

 

clean out your radiator fins best you can. i clogged mine up a few years back and when crawlin up a hill(so goin slow of course) i over heated, not realizing till steam poured out. screwed my radiator and blew a head gasket
