I've been pretty happy with the Rancho 9000XL shocks I am now running. They have both a regular and remote reservoir version of the shock, they use high pressure nitrogen and are still adjustable. With the in-cab controls, you can dial in the ride from really soft to fairly firm. Aside from the controls, they are nothing like the older 9000s, it is a night and day difference.

Or you could try one of the tunable/rebuildable shocks and get the compression/rebound damping dialed in for your specific vehicle.

I run the Rancho 9000XL shocks but without the controller (knob adjust) and I run 2 shocks per wheel. My wife has a bad back and she would not ride in my truck if the truck did not ride decent. I also like the adjustability feature on the shock because I can dial them in for different road / off-road conditions.
