yeah, I loosened it, thanks Cleatus lol.

I'll check the parts shops, but at this point I'm just going to use the stocker...I don't even have a front driveshaft yet anyways.

How do you think you are going to attach the high steer to the stock pitman arm??

With my magical farts, of course!

Oh, and I ground off some of those crappy mig welds and laid down some good weld with my flux core unit, good penetration on the spring perch.

Welp, got everything on the axle but the hubs......stupid birfield ends burred up and I'll need to file 'em down to get the hubs to slide on.

Bolted up the wheels in the meantime and rested full weight on the wheels. I broke a pitman arm remover, so picked up a new one and will need to get that done, and tack on the spring perches too......a bit of work left, but since I'm out of town this weekend I hope to be done by next friday...or at least driveable, lol.

PICS!!!
Click on MEEEEE

and MEEEE TOO!!!!

Holy mother of sweet Jesus this thing sits high now. It's frickin badass! But talk about disproportionate to the rear end...gotta get those coil spacers on, or figure out how I can do a custom rear leaf swap for cheap to even it out LOL.

You can connect the draglink to the stock pitman arm with a Sky's Pitman Arm Adapter. I used one for 2 weeks before I moved my steering box and used the flat pitman arm that I ordered with my Hi-Steer. There is one of these on my 87 SAS truck as well.

I'll be able to get that stock pitman arm off, I replaced the broken puller, and I'm gonna follow Brian's suggestions to tighten it, then hammer it a bit, and tighten it some more.

Whatever Japanese guy tightened my stock pitman arm on my 4runner back in 94, must've had 10 of his friends help him tighten it further.

*cough*wegotem*cough* Women are always pissed about something. Makes them feel useful and needed. My wife doesn't swear and my 85 has always been the "&*$% truck".

PB Blaster the fool out of it. Tighten up the pitman arm puller and then take off the socket and hit the bolt of the puller a few times with a 3 lb sledge. No need to assault it, but firm hits. Tighten some more. Some times it might only move 1/8 or 1/4 turn but keep doing that and it will pop right off eventually. If you have no luck, tighten it up there and leave it on overnight and then try again. If all else fails heat it up to break it free. Just takes more patience than brute machoness.

yeah if I don't get the runner driving by friday it'll also be "that f***ing truck" to my woman as well, lol.

I'll get the pitman off, somehow.

As for the rear leaf swap....do you have some chevies and spring/shock mounts available? I don't have the $500 for the swap

unfortunately I'm not home so I can't finish the runner...I'm at my parents house helping them scrape popcorn off their ceiling. Talk about fun

I'm sure it'll be here monday, just in time. I picked up a file and I'll be filing the crap outta the birfield ends to make sure the damn hubs slide over 'em.

Oh, what kind of snap ring pliers do you suggest for those big thick rings? I've got some small ones for chinsy ones, but those are some beefy snap rings......

OKAY! Got the pitman off. Took machoness AND pblaster, lol. And I didn't break the pitman arm remover this time! (yes, I broke one with my brute strength, lol)

Steering is done...fitted up one of the brake lines and calipers, gonna do the other tomorrow, finish additional welding on the spring perch, and put on the hubs after I file the ends of the birfs......then somehow flex it enough to figure out where to mount the extended bumpstop and shock towers.

It's done and driving whenever I want/need it.

Basically I just need to fix some slop on the gears before I get a driveshaft (whenever I can afford that since we're closing on a house tomorrow)

Kaleb, here are your pics! Had to go out and play, even with 2wd. Did some stuff most jeepers there didn't think it could do in 2wd.....and even stuff I didn't think it could do. Some people thought I had a rear locker......and didn't believe me when I said no.

Yota guys just know how to drive

http://4by4runner.com/images/images/house%20085.jpg

http://4by4runner.com/images/images/house%20086.jpg

those last two, I had somehow made it over some tricky off-camber stuff in clay and up a near vertical face......my driver's rear tire got hung up on a root and I couldn't make it over.....pics don't do justice (as usual).........and I was 2wd.

Had someone tug me just over the root.
