Identify part
Need help identifying a part that fell out of a solid axle housing that I'm prepping for a SAS build. Its an 84-85 housing. All of the research I'm doing doesn't mention this piece. Found another one at one end. It came out with little resistance. Do they go in any particular way? Thanks for any help.

I've tried several times and ways but it won't let me include a picture. Thought it was attached but I guess not. Still trying. It just shows OBJ

I'm kinda new to this forum also, but usually when a newbie to a forum you have to have 5 or 10 posts before you can attach.
how about a detailed description

It's a round threadless ring with the center slightly off center. 57mm OD and 34mm ID.3 small holes on the outer edges. One at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 9 o'clock. Made of steel. On the inside of the housing behind the seal.

Nothing is coming up in my memory at the moment for this. Kinda sounds like a deflector to keep too much 90 wt piling on the seal so it doesn't seep into the knuckle. I'll ask my son-in-law and see what he thinks this may be

He said he hasn't had an early front apart in probably 10 years, but his recollection may be that this is like a stopper to keep the seal from being installed too deep into the housing, thus keeping the seal and the seal surface of the shaft in align with each other. If that is the case, this can be alleviated by using the Trail Gear heavy duty seal, as that has a lip on it that prevents the seal from moving altogether---once installed. When you can post a pic, maybe this will all make sense

Had a shop look at the part and he believed it to be from the factory as part of the assembly line as a guide for when the axle shafts are put in as to not damage the seals. Not needed for a rebuild. And the holes are in fact there to restrict the flow of oil directly to the seals.
