FJ 60-62 axle on 3rd gen 4runner

Anyone use a FJ60 front axle on their 3rd gen? I have found one on Marlin's site. I am looking to do something a little different. I am going to flip the housing to get the drivers side drop and keep the stock Tcase. Just getting ideas and info, I know I can buy a diamond housing, but little pricey... Any opinions on front leaf springs to use? I have read up on 4404 and RUF but all seem to be pieced together from several packs, looking for a stock pack to run up front. Thanks for your guys info.

Look at Yotaman's build up on the same.
I think it's in this section too.

That axle is awesome. I decided not to use it because I found the cash to buy a diamond. There have been a number of guys that have used that housing. Most don't have threads. The guy on marlin documents it good. Flipping it can be some work.

Ruff Stuff makes a special spring perch for use with this axle also.

To keep things low I'd make a custom pack using 48" or 51" Toyota springs. Marlin no longer sells springs so you only have TG or All-Pro now for aftermarket springs. The 4404 leafs are way to tall. Most people end around 27+" with 35" using those springs.

I'd get some 3" springs if you didn't want to use custom stuff. You can run Sky's shackle hanger to try and keep it low or keep an eye on my build to see what I have planned with tubes in the frame.

Keeping things low with the newer trucks with leafs is tricky because of the steering. I'm having custom arms made to keep everything as close to the springs as possible. I also plan to notch the frame to get some more up-travel.

What is the special spring perch for? Is it to bring the mounting distance to the same as the mini truck axles, so you can use a common SAS front frame mount for the springs? I was going to make one myself. Thanks for the info very helpful.

Also I was going to use the IFS hubs from a 86-95 truck to widen the wms, but from what I have read I need a custom bracket to run the stock 3rd gen calipers?

If you want to use the new calipers you will need the rotors and calipers and a FROR braket. It's $100 bones.

You can use the older IFS calipers without the bracket if you wanted. You just use the FJ60 rotors.

I also think you can use the newer slip over rotors with the older calipers and not have to use the bracket but I have to figure it out first. I think you can move the caliper to other side of the knuckle.

I think I will go with the older ifs calipers and fj60 rotors, I did the same with my FJ40 axle and didn't need any special bracket. Cool thanks again, I will be watching your build as I want to keep it low also. Depending on the shackle mount a 3" lift spring for the older SA trucks will get me around 5" right? I would like to run 37's eventually with mostly droop and tub the fenders to get as much up travel as i can.

I used the fj60 axle in my leaf spring build. All the details are in my tread over there. 98 sas.
