Its a product called Durabak. You can order it online. It's an industrial non-slip coating. Similar to a Herculiner product but industrial grade. Works good. Dont get it on your hootus. From my research its the best bang for the buck...

I got the axle all shaved last night..Ripping that plug out this weekend really pissed me off and I don't want it to ever happen again.....This was waaaaay easier than I thought it was gonna be...the hardest part is disconnecting the axle from the truck. I used 1/4" steel and left a little over 1/8 inch clearance on the ring gear.

..heres some pics.....

The victim>>>

Rough cut

The edges of the plate are beveled (as well as the cut in the housing) so that the weld fills in correctly giving it a nice flush fit

Looks like it should fit right?

Eh, so I keep discovering broken parts upon dis/re assembly...... The total damage report is: stripped drainplug, stripped ARP studs out of knuckle, 2 wasted trunions and 2 wasted TREs

Heres some random pics for the masses>>

I trimmed off the bottom "perch"/rock anchor

Camera doesnt focus close up very well

Some sexy new seals...thanks Marlin

I picked up this Kustom seal driver kit from Fontucky Fab....thanks Peps!

I replaced the bottom 2 studs with button head bolts since they are the first thing to hit the rocks now....

Here is the offending drain plug....

I decided to compromise with the magnet and use a drain plug/magnet on the fill plug...maybe it will slosh the gear oil up on it and metal will stick...who knows?

Yes....and I am verrrrry happy with them...talk about stout....the rear springs weigh like 75 pounds each and are 9 leaf packs with an anti wrap....

I am still breaking them in after probably 8-10 hard runs

From what I understand Marlins US springs and All pros come from the same manufacturer: Betts Spring Company. They are made from US steel and assembled into packs in Indonesia (I believe).... Trail gears arent bad from what I have seen.....the first few batches seem to have had sagging/bending problems but for the most part "from what I have heard" this has been corrected.

Sky Manufacturing now offers springs as well. Sky told me that they are manufactured by a company called Portland Spring Company. I dont know much else about them though...

So I finally started building a bumper yesterday...hope to finish it up this afternooon! It doesnt look like much now but its gonna be sweet. I'm using a combination of 1 3/4, 1½ and 1" DOM tubing. The winch plate is a trail gear one because i got lazy but whatever....I've had it sitting around forever.

The springs settled in nice and level now

Nice clean slate to work with

These are the cappers for the ends of the tube
