Did you shim your 5'' HD trail gear sas

I have a Trail Gear heavy duty 5'' SAS front end and my pinion angle is horrible. (5'' shackles came with the kit)
If you have this kit under your truck and put SHIMS on the axle to fix the pinion angle please let me know what degree of shims you used.

i called trail gear and they said i cannot shim the axle cause the tie rod will hit the leaf pack. this sucks. they should have mentioned this problem before buying the kit

Generally up front you would only want to shim as needed to correct any caster angle issues:
At least if you plan to drive the rig on the street at all.

To correct the pinion angle, you need to do something like this:

or install a high pinion front diff or install dual transfer cases, both of which lessen the angle on the pinon and drive shaft.

And case in point, I have about 4" of front suspension lift, plus the t-case is raised 2", axle moved forward ~2.75" from stock, dual cases, and a high pinon front diff and I have no shims on the front axle and have a good caster angle and an almost perfect (i.e. near 0 degrees) pinion angle.

You need dual cases to fix the driveshaft angle. Its the only way to fix it.

Perhaps you should have researched your swap a bit more before performing a SAS, as this is a common problem mentioned all over the Toyota online world.

i'm on a 4" front kit and got away with using a 4* shim, tie rod to leaf spring is really close at full droop. check over on the TG forum, there is a current thread on this....

be carefull shimming. the closer you get to 0* caster the higher the risk of a "death wobble"

The best way to fix this is a cut and turn. set your pinion angle to whatever helps you sleep and night and set your knuckles to around 6-8* of caster. I have about 7* of positive caster, before I was about 3.5* of positive and I had a wobble @ 35mph where I felt like the wheels were gong to come off

i had my cv turned into a high angle u-joint and that also helped the driveline. decreases the angle at the pinion cause it doesnt stick out as far as the cv did from the transfercase
