Its not an easy deal. What are your skills? Tools? Def not a bolt on with your buddies kinda thing.
Be better off Finding a 4x4.
Honestly sounds like you have a solid axle attached to a turd.

i mean my 83 is rusty and motor is done but the axles tranny and transfer case are good always changed my fluids and went over kill with the grease gun
yea i could pay $4000 for a decent extra cab 4wd or i coud pay $1500 for a decent 2wd extra cab and do the swap
the question is would i need any more parts and how much would they end up costing would the swap lift my front end with the stock 83 springs and how much exc...exc...

I'll give this a shot...
The reason you probably don't have many replies is because if you searched "2wd sas" in this forum, you'd see a few have already done it. As far as frames go, the general consensus is that the 2wd frame has the same arch in the front as the older solid axle trucks, so a little easier to fit steering links in there. Also from what I've heard, less grinding and cutting to remove the old suspension.
I can't tell you the lift amount, exactly, but I was able to fit 33x10.5 KM2's with no rubbing with the stock springs on my 83. Now, that being said, I only had 1.5" or so between the bumpstops and frame, and my front springs were in relatively good shape. I'd suggest something like OME springs. A little lift, not too much so you're sky high and your tires look ridiculous.
There is someone on here who took a 2wd and used stock 85 springs, axles, etc to sas his 2wd, but I can't remember the username and didn't see it immediately in the 2wd sas search. The info is here, in this section, but no 2 sas's are going to be the same.
Edit:Almost forgot about the L52 question...yes, the 22RE can be hooked to the L52, but why not use the 2wd trans with the 83 transfer case attached to it? I'm not real familiar with the 2wd trans options, do you know what trans it is? The L52 isn't really known to be the strongest 4 cyl trans, just the strongest of the 1st gens, and using the 2wd frame, I think you'll have to do something with the trans crossmember anyhow. Not much reason to use the L52, unless the 2wd trans can't be converted to 4wd.

sweet thx for the info
yea i have no clue the exact trans in the 2wd but i would guess its a w55 (not w56)
all this seems so complicated but i think would be so worth it if i can get a sas extra cab for under $2500 instead of paying $4000-$5000 for a ifs truck
