BTW My wife drove the whole trail and it was her 1st time driving, and i spotted her through it.....

I found some pics, but they are crappy... i can e-mail then you ya....

I say we run it...

From Alb.. the trail does take some time to get too.....after you exit 140( i think its 140 142ish(HW 6 exit) on i-40, there is about and 30 minute give or take ride to the trail head... but the road is pretty nice....

While I know that David and the NMTTORA crew can run any trail here in NM, I'm a little concerned that we may be pushing the limits for folks who are not really setup for such trails. Most IFS rigs are not running 35" meats, hence most of the folks who are running 33" meats may be less inclined to show up.

We are all at different levels in our 4Wheeling abilities and I wouldn't want to take a trail that would incline other folks to just sit and watch the really modified rigs have fun (thrash their rigs).

Is there something a little more moderate that everybody could play on? With some optional obstacles that the more modified crew could try?

I would imagine that Austin would consider staying an extra day to film the hard core group, say in Socorro or some other insane trail.

Opinions..............

Hummmmm

33's and 1 rear locker, and doesn't really want to beat thier truck.... Trails in Socorro come to mind.... Lower Amado canyon .... it is an up and down trail... With the option for the bigger trucks to winch up( maybe drive) the last fall and run Upper....

I'm in for easy to medium trails, I just need to be able to drive to work on Mon

I don't have sliders, but should be able to handle most stuff without a problem... Time to give the M/T's a proper NM breakin!

David is pretty Hard Core. I'm looking into the trails. What David does in his rig scares me.

So, I'm working it.

Jim, you recently did Jaws and some other trails.....How were those for most of the IFS group?

Jaws was difficult, not for the average IFS. Sliders, belly armor (depending on height) and lockers are highly recommended. With that said, I would be happy to run it again. The other IFS rigs in our group took a little body damage, I was very close to loosing a rear window, but somehow I made it out without any damage.

Tank Trap was fun, moderate for a well equipped rig. SteveO, BTW that line that we were trying in the middle of the night...I did it. Although it was dry this time.

Rio Puerco is all optional stuff, pretty much a do what ever you want to do area.

How about lower jaws, I've read this is easier.

Good job on the tank trap. Yes, 3 feet of water and mud makes things a bit difficult.

I may be going to Socorro this weekend to check out some of the trails, interested?

Cool,
If I don't stay in Santa Fe for a few extra days like I'm currently planning on doing we can caravan down. I can't wait to get out there!

Thanks, I actually should have said that we all took that line, instead of the 35 degree line.

We are going to Denver this weekend for a little family vacation (6 Flags, Water World, Etc.)

If I am back from Reno by then I would like to tag along. I think that there is plenty of stuff out in Puerco that could keep the group entertained, but I am interested in checking out more trails in the area too.

Great Harry, it'll be great to have another journalist along.

I found out today, that a section of the Tank Trap is "Definitely" off limits. The part of the trail in which we climb around the tank is the section that is supposed to be off limits. The Ranger stated something about sacrad ground or burial sites, something to that nature. bummer. I'm going to visit the Ranger Station Friday and have them defiine the boundaries that are accessible and not accessible. This way there is no questions about it at all.

I'm also going to check out Socorro a bit more to find some more places there that the IFS crowd can handle. I did a trail that was challenging for me and I think an IFS groud could get through there as well.

Thanks for checking things out SteveO. I have always heard rumors, but without signs or any markings I don't see how they could expect anyone to know what is off limits. That takes out the best obstacle on the trail, bummer.

Not sure about that trail in the pic, I am not real interested in getting that far off camber...although I would like to do some of the trails in Socorro.

Just got back from the Santa Fe Forest Service, and found that Tank Trap is a GO. We will have no problem running the entire trail. Picked up a map of the area which shows the Tank Trap and the areas we can't go into.

So, I recommend we run Tank Trap on Saturday....

I think there are some places down in Socorro that we could hit up:

Moderate=4WD and high clearance needed. Brush may overhang route. Stock vehicles may need assistance.
Hard = 33" tires and at least one locker recommended. Don’t whine about scratches, dents, or broken parts!

The Causeway - Moderate
Hidden Valley - Moderate
Upper Amado Canyon - Hard

I have run some canyon's here, but I don't recall the names of them. I can't recall if I have been in Upper Amado or not. I'll post elsewhere to find more information on these routes.

That picture above of my 4Runner may be in Upper Amado.....
