For some people, yes, 2006 is goo, but 2007 may be more realistic.
I would be able to make it where I stand now, but I'd have much more fun knowing I don't have to watch what I spend.
I am just about to finish paying off my truck, so thats an extra grand a month.

Then I'd have to attack
the credit cards and have them paid off in 5 months with that money plus what I pay to them now. I'd have to watch what I spend this Christmas.

Say it's 12,000 miles for me round trip and I would average 12 MPG on the low side to be safe, that's $2000 for premium fuel alone.
Factor in dinner and maybe a place to sleep, unless I pack light and buy what I need along the way.

It would be an awesome trip to be filmed from various start point in the US and meet up all in one place. Like Mecca or w/e the people journey to.
But 2006 may be a little too close for comfort for me, and probably a few others.

This sounds like an exciting adventure!! Being in the military I do not have alot dough so having the time to save up for such a trk would be nice. As stated ealier, doing a trip like this without going wheeling would be like going to the pool and not swimming, IMO. But for now i will subscribe and start saving. I think a list should be started on what will be need and what is recommended to bring.

I wonder if there is the possibility of piggybacking the Runner up North via train to BC or the Yukon, then driving from there...???

It would be an option... But it kind of takes away at the whole thing of a gathering of yotas, as well as like-minded people coming together and forming a convoy of yotas from all parts of north america going to alaska.

Speaking of gathering of yotas, that could be a name of the event??? GOT Alaska(Gathering of Toyotas Alaska) or GOY Alaska(Gathering of Yotas Alaska)... Somthing to that effect... Just an idea, (got the idea from when I was involved with Nissans, and they had an annual GOX (Gathering of Xterras) which took place in Ouray, CO, and an annual GoneMOAB (Gathering of Nissan Enthusiasts MOAB) which took place in Moab, UT)

Well many say that Spring of 06 is to soon, what do you guys think about the fall or late summer of 06, like posted before, we do not want to lose the enthusiasm or people along the way, ill also try to get a few pages on the internet related to this one, just under my own demain, like lists of supplies and costs, to rigs and people to voting on locations and ec. like that.

I surely don't want to throw any cold water on this fantastic idea but maybe we need to look into the gas/food/beer/motel/etc. prices a little as well as typical weather conditions during the time period one plans on going. Right now gas prices are in the mid 80 to mid 90 cent Canadian range per liter. It will get higher as the summer progresses. Food and especially beer will get your attention also. Temperatures will get a little chilly in the evenings and up into the 60's during the day - warmer as the summer progresses. You can expect to run into rainsqualls every now and then throughout the season. One needs at least a month or more to do this trip up in style – 4-wheeling, sightseeing and fishing, without running your arse ragged and that’s tenting it 95% of the time. I’m with a small group of guys planning a Great Slave Lake trip next summer – (This year will be the Pas or maybe Thompson in northern Manitoba) we know it’s going to cost each of us close to $4K for a 3-week trip (2 per vehicle at that!) of course – a little over half of the cost will be for the fishing alone. (The Pas/Thompson is much, much cheaper) Good Luck on your planning, it’ll be a great trip.

Steve or anyone, could you post a proposed itinery MapQuest or GoogleMaps style? Also, what would be the best starting point/city? The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to fly in and rent a 4Runner from the nearest U.S. based Toyota TRAC dealer. I'd be up for whenever the wilderness roads are most passable and the bears are full of berries.

i could do late spring(later part of may)/summer. i have school i have to worry about. i think it would be so cool to see a bunch of yota rolling north, like harley's going to Sturgis. is there a way that part of the cost for food could be covered by a sponser or something?

What should be done IMHO if you want this trip to not flounder is for someone or a few people to step up and volunteer to be a coordinator/ planner. It would be feasible for them to require a fee and registration/ sign-up sheet to compensate for their time and effort. (this is a HUGE undertaking, obviously.) There should be one final destination in Alaska that should be scheduled to arrive at during a favorable month. Some large offroading park would be good?? Aside from that, you should work backwards and post an itinerary (sp?) that would include a date and location in several major cities that would gradually branch out from the final destination in alaska. (Vancouver, Chicago, NYC, Denver, LA, Nashville, etc.. you guys get the idea.) If anyone has seen the Cannonball run or "Road race across america" thing on TV, it is similar. They meet at hotels as waypoints...This would facilitate a larger group of participants, as well as allow for individuals to have more flexible schedules to do side-trips or whatever (fishing, 4wheeling, sightseeing) but still stay somewhat with the major group. Obviously this needs some tweaking, but i think it is a valid framework for you guys to think about or whatever. SALUD!!

hey guys, i just set up a quick forum on a seperate domain for the alaska trip, comments are always welcomed, everyone pitch in on locations/meeting places, and itinerary, thanks, robert

It will be easier if you just use your yotatech name, that way we still know who is who, make things easier.

heres the link

Agreed... And also, once we arrive in Alaska, what will we do? Is it a convoy trip only, to where we arrive then have a big party meet with then part and go our seperate ways? Or is it a convoy up, do some wheeling (whats available in the area as far as wheeling btw?) and spend a few days up there then part?

Whats everybodys take on this? What would YOU like to do?

I would like to convoy up during the week, and arrive on a friday, spend the weekend up there wheeling saturday and sunday, camping at night... Then monday morning start the trip back down, whether we convoy down or part i dont know, it would matter on who wants to do what.

This sounds fabulous. I'm in... Spring or summer is fine, 06 mildly better than 07.

Lurking, 2006 is ok, 07 would be better. Vacation is no issue, taking a large amount of it is another. I'd be willing to help do some of the research. We might have to assemble several groups to contribute to the multiple elements of this trip and then synthesize all the info into a useful format. Even then the logistics will be huge, but this has the possibility to be a very cool event.
