If you had a 3rd Gen your steering would have been strong enough. The FJ box is beffier than the IFS box and it ain't as strong as that steering rack was.

Remember way back on 4X4Wire everyone saying the rack was weak. Fools. It's way stronger.

Tentative dates are August 12, 13 and 14

Expect a formal anouncement very soon.

Jake.

I have a web guy now. There will be a page. I am working on contents at the moment.

In the interest of catering to locals, I am thinking Friday, Saturday, Sunday to cut days off of work.

There will be a potluck Saturday and I aim for Saturday trails to be shorter.

I'm very much looking forward to running Iron Chest again. That used to be my favorite trail. Much of the boulder section is in the trees on a mostly north-facing slope (lots of shade), so the snow doesn't exactly melt from there very fast.

BTW, Cathy and I have set our wedding date in early September. I still plan to attend CO4RJ and M4R4A (Moab). Cathy really enjoys 4 wheeling, ya know. Due to time constraints, I'll probably have less of a roll this year in organizing Moab, although I still want to play a part in it.

Jeff, I would love to run it with you again.

Some bad news. I have been playing phone tag with Chalk Creek and they said the group site is reserved for some Jeepers who were there last year. I have not actually completed a conversation, just exchanged messages.

WOOT!!!!

Anna & I were wondering if all was good with you 2. Congratulations!!!

Chalk creek/Buena Vista will work again for us as well. BUT I think the goal for us Colorado residents is when we're out on the trails this summer to keep an eye out for a new camp ground in a new area for next year!

John

There needs to be a new destination next year, that is given. I did not have time to personally scout for any of this, but Brian and others have been generuos in suggesting new trails.

Work and life have killed me this week. I am checking on the week prior to the one scheduled to avoid the conflict.

I will be trying a new registration format. Each day you register for small rocks, bigger rocks or biggest rocks. It takes two lockers to do the biggest rocks, one for bigger and none for small, as in it is doable with a stocker. This will get dismissed to allow a catastrophic trip with anyone who wants to try Chinamen's on Sunday.

The biggest rocks trails will be Holy Cross, Iron Chest and Chinamen's, in that order.

Saturday will be potluck supper since everyone should hopefully be in camp that night. This means shorter trails that day.

Again more to follow. I will make time this weekend.

I can appreciate what your trying to do. But, to say you can't do these trails without a front locker just doesn't seem right. There wouldn't be any difficult trails left for us one lockered guys.

This will have to be moved either up or back. The week in the middle the other people are NAXJ, so they will be shooting for the same trails as the rest of us.

The week before is Pinzgauer, but the week after is free. I need to make some more calls and pull it.

As for requirements, I know people are going to be ticked and I am trying to work around that. Last year three trucks out of 12 tried to cross the creek, to me there is no point in doing it unless we are going to cross and go at least to the city. To combat this, perhaps we will have a to the city run Friday and a to the creek run the following.

Lets just count on Thursday the 18th night through Sunday the 21st night.

Basically what Cheese is saying is, if you can't cross French Creek for sure, don't sign up.

I want to get to Murphy Rock and if too much flogging is done and the creek we can for get that.

So if you can't cross it don't sign up, we're going to the city and beyond.

The idea was the entire trail or nothing. There HAS to be something else hard to run that day.

Thanks Steve.

I am waiting on the campground to confirm reservation change before posting the new thread.

Wheeler may be opposite Holy Cross while Grizzly Lake with an off shoot could be opposite Iron Chest. Again, I will finalize the medium and small rock trails in the next day or so.

In the same way that having one big group fit the original gatherings, having smaller groups with strict requirements fits this group better IMHO.

If people are concerned about getting to camp on time, which was a large and frequently voiced concern last year, changes must be made. To me, that means smaller, better equipped trail groups each day.

So, do we have the dates confirmed, or at least firmed up?

I'm thinking I may have my SAS, Dual Case, Buggy done by then.....

It will need a pre-run. I would think a custom gas tank skid and custom rear control arms would be required. Unless you don't care about bombing them. Maybe the Marmot could pre-run it for us early summer.
Are you sure the rocks have been put back? I thought they were gone again, least thats what a couple of trail reports i read said. Could be wrong though, haven't been there w/out the rocks. Went there once to see how bad it was. With the rocks is unbelievable. You will wreck stuff.

This is where I broke a 5/8 bolt on my upper control arm. I ran the entire trail from the Rock Garden, up and back on one upper control arm, and the two lowers.

For those of you who are worried, Wheeler Lake can be done in a COMPLETELY stock 1st Gen. No body damage, no breakage. I know, I've done it.

However, I completely agree with the selection process. When going by yourself, you can screw around and do your own thing, but with a group of 10, it takes time. Lots of time, even if no one gets stuck.

French Creek will be impossible w/out at least one traction device, unless it's changed. I doubt anything less than a locker will make it. I'll be attempting it again this summer, so I'll see how it goes. (I'll have a LSD only, so I'll give a report)
