Wheeling Drummond Island Michigan this weekend
Hurry, before Jeepers Cramboree assimilates the U.P. of Michigan! Come on up and wheel Turtle Ridge ORV Park on Drummond Island MI this weekend with me. I'll be in my '97 FZJ80 locked all around, 33" MT's with beadlocks. That stuff's all for show though, cuz it's my daily driver and I'll be 500 miles from home, so I'll prolly be ˟˟˟˟˟-footin' it around the tuff stuff. But don't let my wussy-tude slow you down, come on up and show my how it's done!
Along with me will be an 87 4Runner, another 80's 4Runner, and half-dozen FJ-40's from GLLC, so it should be a nice crowd.
Later,
Lorax

It went great, although I didn't get to hang out with the Great Lakes Land Cruisers as much as I wanted to-- on account of my dad didn't bring his Toyota, he brought a Dodge Dakota, and it was too wimpy to keep up. Oh well, here's some pics, of my family and of the GLLC trip through Turtle Ridge ORV Park:

The park is great although a little small IMHO. It is unlike anything I've wheeled on before, it is partly rocky and partly woodsy, with plently of shallow mud/water. Very fun! Something for everyone, but the mild-core 4wheeler will have the most fun.
So, timeline: everyone showed up Friday. Saturday morning GLLC gathered to go to TR, and then (planned) to State Forest trails to Marble Head. We all started in the upper/easier part of TR, but I and my Dodge-y family weren't able to keep up with the LC's, so we went our own way. After lunch as GLLC headed to the tougher/lower part, we headed off-park to Marble Head. We got home around 6, and I heard a message from GLLC that they were stuck at TR and could I help. I got there around 7, they were almost done getting out, after like 4 hours of work. I helped a (very) little, then went home and that ended our wheeling.
I would definitely recommend a trip to Drummond, it is worth the drive.

Ahh I remember most of those places in your Pics It is sad that the Rocks you climb @ Marblehead doesn't look as rough in a pic as it does when you look at it from behind the steering wheel. It's Kewl to see the LCs out on the trails @ TR, Steve the guy who runs it is a good guy. Was this your first time on the Island? We are heading up there in July, can't wait to check out the lower part, it wasn't open when we were there last year.

Howdy 88XCDLX. Yep as usual the pics don't do it justice. There were definitely some rocky parts in Turtle Ridge that only a buggie could walk through. The last rocky ledge to Marble Head had a tough line that required at least 35s and sliders, or a profound lack of concern for your vehicle. I took the medium path, the Dodge took the easy (and tweaked his running board).
Yes, it was the first time I'd been to Drummond Island, at least since I was kid.
The lower part, from what little I saw, is much tighter forest and much more mud-- deep swamp mud, with a thin layer of green on it, to fool you. GLLC got stuck for hours about 100 yards past the entrance on the right.
