Wheeler needs help

Axel was up on the little Naches trail today.
Not the main Naches, but the trial here that is above this picture.

I believe that is trail 7065 that is about 6.5 miles up forest road 70, and to the left.
Some of you know that hill very well.

He was on that and ran into a deep water/mud hole and may have hydrolocked his engine.

There is easier access to his rig, and one doesn't have to go up that hill to get to his rig.

If anyone can help him out, he is staying at the Crystal river ranch.
Telephone # for his room is 360 663 0247.

A snatch strap or a winch would be able to get him out of the hole he says.

I hope you're not telling me that he went out there on his own?

What's the first lesson of safe wheeling?

I talked with him on the tele before I posted this, and I think he was with a friend in a 2WD Toyota too.

But his truck won't get back to where there are.

He must have a laptop with him as me emailed me from the place he is staying at.

Make sure there's no witnesses when you get stuck?

I'd help if I had time, too much stuff going on right now and my winch is still not hooked up. I think I know exactly where he's stuck too, took a left when he should'a gone right...

I'd go as well, but after taking basically a week off for a visit from my parents, I can't afford any time for at least a couple of days.

I might be able to make it out Wednesday morning if he's still there.

I hope the guy and the truck are OK. I'd go get him but its kinda far.

For the CO folks, i'm willing to come and help recover a stuck member as long as its not during work and there are no better alternatives. I'll come out at night or whatever, I don't mind. PM me for my #, keep it with you.

He's free at last

He got out.
Here is the email I just got.
Ya thanks for helping out Corey. I got a few calls but I managed to get her started and I drove it out with some difficulty. I was worried that I may have bent a rod or cracked a piston but she was running fine.

I called my mechanic and he said drive it home. 9 miles south of Bellingham I dropped a rod through the oil pan. No warning no clattering just bang! Hell of a trip anyway.

Looks like I'll be building up my dream engine this winter. On the bright side it happened when have money to put into it. Now I have incentive. First mod. Snorkel!! Perhaps I can get it done for your next 4Runner Jam. Loved the little bit of trail I got on down there. Some of those hills were pretty challenging.

If you could put up a post saying I got out and thanking those who responded I would be grateful. Give me a ring if you're ever north of the border.

Axel

Oh man! Rod through the oilpan??!! That sucks.

I have seen a technique for removing water from cylinders. You pull all the spark plugs and crank the starter till no more water comes out of the plug holes. It shot into the air about 100 feet. Then let it dry out for a while before re-installing the plugs. The one time I saw it the guy got off the trail, I don't know what happened beyond that. It was a 22RE motor.

I bet one of this guys rods bent and that's why it broke later.

I wish I had seen this earlier. I was sitting around on Sunday, bored out of my mind, looking for for an excuse to go out in woods. I would have even risked my already trashed steering rack to do that recovery.

I have a thought. There are a bunch of us from here and from WATTORA who are good folks and who would go to the rescue for one another. Many of us carry recovery gear in our rigs all the time and just as many of us look for a reason to go wheel.

Perhaps we should put our heads together and build a network of folks who are willing to assist one another in situations such as this. If we have enough of us and the incidents are infrequent enough, I don't think it would present a serious imposition on any one person. Plus, with enough people, the odds of someone being able to do the deed would increase. In this situation, I was close and willing, but unaware.

I am thinking of a phone tree with contact numbers or something similar. Obviosly it would need to be regional, but there are enough of us in Western Washington to get it started...

Thoughts?

"Yotatech/WATTORA 4x4 Search & Rescue Team" Sounds like a great idea!

I have started a distribution list to gauge interest.

If you are interested, subscribe to the list by sending a blank mail to "wwtoysr-subscribe@topica.com".

From there, we can sort out a way to build a phone tree.
