What shocks would you recommend?

My 87 4Runner could use new shocks. I'll stay with the stock 225x15 tires cause I don't do any hardcore stuff. No lift either. I do tow a boat and will be adding add a leafs to the rear. What shock would you recommend for all 4 corners? thanks, Mark

Depends on how much you wanna spend.
I put the Edelbrock's on a few years back, and it was a good investment.

They are spendy, $70 to $80 each.
Central 4WD stocks them, and may have them on sale from time to time.
They are worth the money.

Another shock that is less expensive are the Bilstein's. Very popular with the 3rd gen crowd, only because Edelbrock has not made them yet for the 3rd gens.

I had Les Schwab Tires Mountain Ryder's on before for a few months, but I think the rig is too heavy for them.
It did not handle so great with them.
The Edel's stiffened up the suspension and handled a lot better with them.
They might be great for your rig since it's lighter. I beleive Les Schwab warrents them for life?
They are a Gabriel Gas Adjust shock I beleive rebadged with the Mountain Ryder name.

I would suggest Bilstein's or L.S. version the RMX Mono tubes or the mountain ryder and they both are on sale right now. They both are lifetime warranty.

You can also check out the Rancho 5000. I've had them on mine for 7 years now and they have been great. I do very light off-roading on occasion.

I have Rancho 5000s up front 5145 to be exact, I remember noticing an improvement over the worn out crap that was in there. They have not faded since the install in Aug, 1999. I'm pleased but not overwhelmingly. I think they were $35 each.

In the rear I have Yellow Somethingorothers that I got from Auto Zone for about $12 each, I can't really complain about them but I know there is better stuff out there.

I don't mean any disrepect to the opinions stated above, but I removed the Rancho RS5000 from my truck and replaced them with Bilsteins. The Ranchos, in my opinion, were very stiff. They worked great on the dunes for a while until the oil inside would heat up, then the shock's performance would fade. The Bilsteins are gas charged and don't seem to fade with heat. They ride better too.
