I daily drive my 4 runner about 100 miles a day and the constant locker
quirks is just not worth it on a daily basis. Most of the time in the installation and removal is disassembling the carrier. A third to swap would be a breeze !!!!!!

That is a really good idea. I had an 1985 4Runner over here for a few days that I was working on that had an Aussie locker and I thought that thing was tolerable.
Not anything like the Loc Right POS I had back in 1998. in the truck before the 4Runner that inspired me to buy the e-locker 4Runner in July of 1998, did not get it until Nov. 1998 as they had to order it from Japan. Base model with 31's and locker and NOTHING else in Desert Dune is not easy to come by. Showed up as a 99.
Anyway, I digress. The 2 diff idea is wonderful.

COOL !
It's nice to have the opinion of "the old man "
Swapping the third memeber for a weekend of wheeling is no big deal.
I already have a set of wheels with the 33's mounted on them for the same purpose. It's just not economical to run them everyday. Not that anything about my runner is economical.
This rig will be my trail only rig someday - it's been paid for since I've owned it. I use my runner in my side business - servicing boats. I can pull a
33' Sea Ray out of the water on a trailer to work on it in the parking lot. I'd never pull that much weight anywhere ! People are always amazed that it will pull that hard - a 33' Sea Ray weighs about 17,000 lbs - 4 wheel low does the job nicely !!!!!

The Toyota will squat with that much weight on it - but I seldom even spin a tire pulling the boat out. This is just straight up the ramp and then straight back into the water usually to change a damaged propeller.
Whats funny is that I think the 4 runner would sit in the cockpit of the boat.
The boat and trailer dwarf the 4 runner big time.

I mentioned that the runner would probably pull it in 4 wheel low and we all discussed the possibility and decided exactly what to do if it would do it
The trailer is very specialized - about 35 foot long - aluminum with hydralic lift system for the bunks and a tri - axle. It also has a hydralic set of wheels on the tongue that can be jacked down - kind of a rolling tricycle.
Once the trailer is backed down the ramp and in position for the boat - the wheels are cranked down to accomodate the weight - once the boat is on and secured. the wheels are cranked a little further - so I was only pulling a rolling load up hill in a straight line. I had the EZ locker too.
Because of the wheels on the front of the trailer - my bumper was not sitiing on the ramp. make sense ? I'm almost sorry that I mentioned this - becuse I would have to explain it.
I did not use Park on the runner to hold the load either - just before I stopped pulling - the others scotched the trailer and the 4 runner in several places. I was not sure that it would do it either - but it did and has a couple more times since then - Go Toyota !
I gaurantee - that a couple of the guys with me now drive Toyota's
I figured that somebody on here would cry - Bull ÅÅÅÅ - I would have too !

Working on it now. Havent cut anything off, just working on the axle and getting everything together. Its almost time to start cutting.
Brian has been after me to start a thread about it, so I guess Iwill.
