san diego area question
Not sure is this is where to post this question but I'm sure they will move it if it's not.
Can you drive your ride on the beach in the San Diego area? I never see this done and it would be so much easier than lugging all our stuff to the water every time we go. I do have my kids lifted wagon that I built with wide knobby tires but that only handles tha kid and a cooler, you still have her toys, the lunches, chairs, blankets, and other crap. Just asking to make my life easier and it would make for good pictures.

The only place I've legally driven on the beach in San Diego is at La Jolla Shores. There is a "boat launch" at the end of Avienda de la Playa. I drive out there to launch my kayaks. I don't get bugged by lifeguards because there aren't any out at 4:30 in the morning, and when I get back they see I have kayaks to load. If you're driving on the beach just to drop off goodies, I'm pretty sure the lifeguards will roll up on you and ask you to move, I've seen it happen before.
One morning this guy unloaded his kayak, had taken a piss and came back to find his Toyota Terrorcell stuck. He dug, I winched, fun stuff.

The Calicos were going off, but soaking maks and throwing irons didn't produce anything big. We were about 100ft of water west of the point. Still a good day though. Can't wait to get out again.

Josh here's the reasonI don't do plastic, from bloody decks ... Paddling along, still some dolphins around, feel a bump under the kayak. Uh oh. Not too happy about that. Keep paddling. Another bump this time harder. What the ˟˟˟˟˟˟? Next thing I know I get rocked, and am tossed from the plastic boat. Yak flips and so I immediately flip it back over and hop my a$$ back in. What the hell just happened? Just then it happened again! Back into the water I go. A little scared this time. Flip the yak over again and back in. I thought it was one of the dolphin or something worse (read shark). Just then I see Mr. F**ricking Knothead (seal) about 20 feet away with my F**ing yellowtail in its mouth, thrashing it around like a sonofabitch. Mother...
make sure you keep your fish stored on the yak out of the water.

I always dress to swim, rig to flip, and pack a knife on my leg AND vest. I always get a little uneasy when I cut the gills to bleed the fish out. Those marine mamals are very unpredictable, I was almost flipped by a territorial seal by the bait barge in Quivera Basin. I've heard earth-tone kayaks get more marine mamal action. My biggest scare was probably a nearby feeding thresher shark at Torrey Pines.
A large pod of dolphins were out and about on that last trip.
